Hello, everyone
I'm LUCA
A skiing enthusiast and run a skiing safety company called SANSNOW PROTECTION Co.,LTD
In 2025, I met a group of surfers. I was deeply moved by their pure love and passion. I witnessed some cases where diving suits were scratched by rocks and injured the muscles. I felt that I needed to do something for this sport. Based on my field of expertise and materials science, I am currently preparing to develop a protective sportswear for surfers that is resistant to cuts.
Just as I said, I have extensive experience in the fields of sports protection and materials, but I am a novice in the surfing sport domain and cannot truly grasp the potential dangers and pain points involved. I need your help.
If you have your own thoughts about this new idea, such as in terms of performance, comfort, protection position, etc., you can leave a message for me or send an e-mail.
I really do need your help, all of you enthusiasts. We hope that we can provide good protection and assistance for this sport and the athletes.

Bassicly we have 2 protection issues: impact and cut protection. To be honest, I don,t wear either so just rely on my wetsuit (and occasionaly need to repair some cuts from the foils) and luck.Main reason not to wear it is that altough I have some cuts in my suit I never had really physical damage while the protection like helmets r protection shirts feel uncomfortable and flapping aside your body.
With helmets I have or trapped water or windnoise issues.

Regarding to cut resistance: Gong is one of the first mayor players that came up with thiswww.gong-galaxy.com/en/products/gong-bodyguard-long-sleeves-tee-shirt?variant=49337136611647And Duotone just launched a line as well to give you some ideas/ what the competion is doing

For impact, we tend to rely on vests and helmets (which also provides cut resistance) but that leaves a lot of the body unprotected. Vests don't cover the stomach or below the ribs very well.

For cuts, the main areas i've seen or experienced are (i) around the hips/glutes/groin/stomach, and (ii) legs/shins/feet. Wetsuits help, but cuts still happen through the wetsuit (whether the wetsuit is torn or not).

I'm looking at cut-resistant clothing to help minimize the risks. There will still be the potential for a stab-wound despite the fabric or wetsuit not being cut. In addition to the Gong shorts and hoodie, i've also ordered some Diston ski tights to layer under wetsuit or normal board shorts. I also use Forward WIP sailing leggings under board shorts sometimes in summer (similar to downhill mountain bike armor).

The ION product looks good but too expensive. I was going to order dyneema fabric and sew some items myself, but the Gong product is priced more reasonably so i decided to order that instead. I'm curious to see the quality when i receive it (in the USA so will take some time).

I think the options I would be interested in are:
1) cold/wetsuit conditions:
a) cut-resistant board shorts and wind-breaker jacket to wear over wetsuit
b) thinner cut-resistant base layer leggings and top to wear under the wetsuit
2) warmer conditions (no wetsuit)
a) cut-resistant leggings to wear under normal board shorts and cut-resistant shirt/hoodie

Some design features that would also be good:
- if there are pockets, small drain holes so water can escape easily without adding weight
- attachment between tops and bottoms so there isn't space between the 2 items for the foil to hit skin
- fabric colors so you are more visible on the water
- minimal use of fabrics that absorb water and increase weight e.g. no cotton

Hello, Jeroen.
I'm very glad to receive your suggestion.
I have thoroughly investigated the products of GONG and DUOTONE, and I have accepted a suggestion from a person named Kiwiupover. I plan to develop a super-thin, cut-resistant suit that is elastic and suitable for casual wear. It can be worn under your diving suit. Do you think this product is marketable?
Additionally, my suggestion is that you try to wear some protective clothing or other equipment to prevent cuts, as the actual injuries are unpredictable. You need to prevent damage to your muscles and blood vessels. This should not be taken lightly.

I,m a former ICU/ First iaid Unit nurse, tell me something about cuts that I haven,t seen yet
Kiwiupover sums it up very well.
Being based in Northern europe where its very rare to do watersports without a wetsuit I would be intrested in something flexible (so its not flapping around) that I can wear over a suit. If possible very bright coloured.
Although i can see that an shirt is what peope want probabl the most, I have most cuts in my suits on the legs.
