Armstrong foil.. I bet you don't know THIS about it.

Yesterday I had a big session on the 2400 front wing. Something felt off though. At first I had a hard time getting my balance right and I felt really unstable. Foil was acting like a bucking bronco. Twitchy, ultra sensitive and the balance point was very small. I thought maybe I had the mast too far forward or something...

When carving a turn it felt like i was riding those "bigfoot skis" from the 90s, if you've every seen them. I could turn on a dime.

I still didn't understand why. Thought I was just having a bad session. Took a good 30 mins to get comfortable on the foil.

Anyway, I get the hang of it and a couple of hours go by... as they do when you are foiling...

I get back to beach and the other wingers and kiters are smiling. One comes over, "I don't mean to be a smart ass, but do you realise your front foil wing is upside down?"

THAT WOULD EXPLAIN IT! :)

Anyways, so in case you were wondering. Armstrong foils are so good they can fly upside down too.

Jeepers. Had to laugh.

Rode with the back tail cover on once. Not even army foils could alleviate that stupidity.

That's amazing! I guess planes can fly inverted as well.

I thought you were going to say you forgot to put your tail wing on.

There's clips of a guy out in Thailand who rips his 2400 as a monofoil (even chopped his fuse off). I keep meaning to try it.

Thinking about it later, I think I was compensating the downward "lift" with my front foot much further back than usual, which tilted the foil slightly upwards.

I thought I was just a bit rusty and my balance was off... Probably the sheer size and aspect of the wing allowed it to be possible.

I left a set of wheels locked under my sea kayak once. Was wondering why I had a hard time keeping up with others.

Front wing acts opposite to rear wing. I start with the rear as that can't be switched, then work forward.

Can you explain how you got the wing on upside down? I'm looking at my Armstrong and can't figure out how that can happen if all the screws went in the right spots.

Screw holes in the fuse are on both sides....

possibly. I don't remember anymore what the back wing was doing. I was rushed to get to an appointment... and the reason I rigged up to quickly in the first place. It could have be both upside down.

What I do know is that this past weekend I got it right and I felt sooo stable in comparison and had one of my best sessions ever. So in that light, give it a try! :)

I suppose it is possible to get the rear upside down, but it would be a challenge. At a guess it would be unridable.

But the sex bolt only fits on one side... I've tried mounting my fuse upside down a few times (a legacy of not getting out often enough...) and when you get to the final nut it doesn't fit the hole.

I also find that one of the top screws doesn't fit very well if you get the fuse the wrong way up so I use these as markers that I've got something wrong.
