hi everyone.. i am from perth just wanted t know if the river or the sea is the best place to learn how to windsurf.. i have sail around south perth in a red which. and have tried wind surfing in nedlands.. only 2 times.. i live near the beach where are some places to go thanks.. is the morning or afternoon best time to go?

Definitely the river.

Ocean sailing is something best attempted when you can waterstart... otherwise you'll get munched! (Well you'll get munched either way but at least you get SOME sailing in if you can waterstart)


Pelican Point is nice and safe as well. Bring all your gear down on a windy day, and pick someone who's just got off the water -- I don't know anyone who wouldn't give you a hand setting up your gear. Don't pick someone who's rigging up though, they'll be keen to get on the water themselves!

I would definitely choose Pelican Pt if I were you. The water is flat and shallow and you will feel very safe in these surroundings. At the same time there is a lot of other windsurfers sailing there on windy days, so you'll get a lot of inspiration!

I reckon it is a really good idea to get some windsurfing lessons. It will help you improve really fast and you'll save a lot of hours or even days on the water repeating the same mistakes over and over again.

Try to contact Windforce (www.windforce.com.au) or go down to Pelican Pt where you will find Windforce's windsurfing school (wednesday to Sunday from 11am to 7pm). Here you'll be able to get lessons and maybe try out some of their new equipment.
