I'm trying to push myself into trying (a crashing) some loops but I
a) don't really know what I'm doing
b) don't really have the balls
so I'm looking for other people who're in the same situation to learn with.
Any takers???
Me...
Bailed out of two attempts and am too much of a big girls blouse to try them again.
Definitely up for a Softies Anonymous club membership...
which direction......
just read an feature on push loops....
"apparantly they are easy to nail" -----compared to Backs.....
i'll try one or two this season...coz i don't think the backies are ever going to happen
------
so just do an overated backy .... push out with ur back hand when ur on top of the sail...... and float effortlessly back to the drink for a dainty landing....so easy
try a forward apparently all you need is balls to do them and a good jumping skill, but if you can sail off the wind a bit and jump high enough to get your fin out of the water then your set,
i havnt had a solid day of good conditions to try and learn them, but i can do the basics.
first you need to practice them in light wind off the plane and out of the footstraps / harness. move your back hand far back down the boom , and sheet in look back toward the clew and tuck your legs in it also helps if you push through your front hand you will then do a elaborate catapult and land on your back unharmed ![]()
heres a where i read all that . . . http://www.roynbartholdi.com/windsurf/ws_move_loop_learn1.htm
second step . . .
www.roynbartholdi.com/windsurf/ws_move_loop_learn2.htm
and finally when your balls have tripled in size and youve drank 4 cans of redbull ,
step 3 . . .

i heard that if you head upwind when doing one , the loop will be very upright , like end over end , and if you do it off the wind then it will be more flat and stable.
im hanging out for the day i get the right conditions to try it![]()

apparently going forwards is less technical (and safer) than backs but backs seem a lot easier to visualise. I'm up for trying either (given the appropriate kick up the ass to get me going).
This weekend?
Get your mate to sail out behind you call you all sorts of nasty names that include soft, weak, pu#$y etc, then when a ramp appears, bear away , move back hand further back, launch, throw the front shoulder forward and .... sheet in (PULL THE TRIGGER)and hang on!
Repeat the above following your mate out.
Worked a treat for us.
Yes, they are way easier than backies & pushies. Apart from the initial fear factor there isn't alot to stuff up. Just pull the trigger and hang on!
Good luck. In a few months you'll be wondering why they seemed so hard.
Pushies scare me more than forwards.
But I just love that thrill of going for a backie, over rotating, then freefalling![]()
