It's only a 1 hr drive back to your parents' place...
I plan to drive home after.

Firstly the PFDs.
NP ones are ok as they come under the International equivalent.
Please make sure that markings are legible. If all the print has come off it is probably time for a new one.

Flares. As long as you can access them in an emergency. It is your safety at stake.

The idea this year is for events to be a social weekend. The campsite at Miami is cheap and there is lots of holiday accomodation in the area if you get a group together it is a low(ish) cost option.

Plus you get events to suit the conditions rather than waiting for the right conditions for an event.

Q1 A 4 leg 28km option would be attractive. Not sure if I can do 6 X 7km legs and 14 km is a bit short. Is that a possibility?

Q2 Obviously sail numbers are helpful, but are they essential?

Last year you had to come to the registration on the shore to finish and a time was noted. Basically an honour system so sail numbers are not required. Top finishers sail number helps. They are needed for LOC.

To encourage more intermediates to have a go shorter laps would be helpful, but may complicate things for organisers and confuse sailors. 7 km legs are quite daunting unless you have done it before. Then again, this is a marathon.

A 2, 4 or 6 leg option for the 7km legs would be simpler.
Also it would be useful if you didn't have to decide how many legs you were going for before the race. Personally I would like to try for the 6 legs, but as I have only done that distance in a session twice before, I'm not sure I can go that far without stopping, but I'm pretty sure I could do 4 legs. I'd like to go for 4, with the option of continuing on to do 6 if I feel like I can make it.

If you are using an honour system, just ask sailors how many legs they did when they report back to the registration desk, to work out which race they actually finished.

Again, the main idea is that it is your safety at stake. If you are happy that the flares are going to work when you need them and are in good condition, ok.
It is at the organisers discretion but if they are more than 12 months out of date it is probably best to renew.

If it blows NW as forecast and cant be shifted to Benderland Bunbury, the best long legs for a Marathon in Mandurah on the Peel estuary, on that NW direction would be "FatBoys" Nairns Beach Coodanup. if NW can do 7 to 8km legs.
