As I'm now a scabs 'local' I was wondering what the launch is like? Whereabouts, what's there to look out for, that sort of thing.

Rig .5m bigger than what you would use elsewhere to deal with the rip, go out with the backwash bear down wind a bit pump like crazy, stay away from the swimmers flags and try to avoid swimmers, boogie borders, surfers, 30 clubbies on those paddle ski's and the kiters that stray from their upwind spot. See you out there.
It's a great spot. You'll improve your Lancelin Ocean Classic performance massively if you sail there regularly.
Not only is it windier than the river, it has lawn to rig on, showers and lots of chicks in bikinis - what more could you want?!
