What will be the categories? I.e. open only or will there be a novice
more than happy getting knocked out in first round by someone similar ability but to know that up against someone in first round that can wave ride really well and forward/back loop is dauntin/depressing!

I agree, a division for people who can barely or never loop would drag the majority of us into comps. Most guys I sail with are that level and would be awesome to compete against them, rather than the guys who can pull the big moves.

+1 on the novice division.
Green head or gero is a long way to drive for a 30min heat.
And knowing you're not going to stand much of a chance in the open division is a bit discouraging.
