I know this already happens informally, and there is an individual spiritual soulful nature to wavesailing, but a team/community based element may be one way of increasing the positive vibe on and off the water, coz I have to admit the biggest turn-off for me about wavesailing atm is the attitude on the water

How could we do this? Those of you that have your groups, is it possible or even desireable to be more inclusive, particularly if you can find like minded souls?

And how about when it's crowded, the concept of a party wave, where we get 2 to 3 of us waveriding the same wave at same time, and that being part of the BUZZ? We call "PARTY WAVE"?

What are your ideas?

Or are people even interested in such a concept?

Thats why we need a wavesailing forum

Here is a solution:

Two new "Topic Groups" have been created ... "Wavesailing" and "Freestyle".

When you start a new topic (in the Windsurfing/General) which is wavesailing related, choose "Wavesailing" from the category box.

Then you can filter the forum to nothing but Wavesailing by simply choosing "Wavesailing" from the filter.

I would like to get into wavesailing!

I have bought a wave board and played around in a bit of small chop but would really love to meet some wavesailers for a bit of advice and a possible sail with them to get a bit of confidence but as you stated at the top it is difficult to get into a group because of the attitude so i would be up for any ideas!

If you go to lano and i'm up there.I would be glad to keep an eye on you and show you around the reef etc.
PM me when you think you might go up there and i'll let you know if i'm going up too.
You will find lano a very friendly place once you've been a few times..

the problem with party waves is that not everyone sails good enough to do it. and unless I know how well the person sails i'm not gonna share a wave with them.

also small waves aren't worth doing it on.

i think the attitude happens in wavesailing cause everyone wants a wave and it's a rare thing to get a good one so when i get one i don't want anyone else to try and ride it.

where as just flat water stuff or jumping or what ever. you don't have to wait for anything.

I'm pretty sure the wave will show him around the reef eventually..

i found when i was getting into wavesailing i would just show up and strike up a convo and get all the tips about the place really easily, everyone is pretty friendly and we were all beginners once and most of us still sail crap.

I don't think every wave or every person is suited to the party wave concept. Say Marg's on a decent day wouldn't suit as a party wave, except for maybe a select few hotshots. But there are some waves on some days that are very suited to a party wave.

One issue is the growing numbers in the waves, there just gonna get much bigger, particularly with huge kitesurfing numbers, and as they gett better lots will be attracted to waves and as all windsurfers get better they get attracted to waves. So the precious wave is gonna get more precious, and when humans compete for scarce resources we know how ugly things can get. Building groups/communities is one answer, but certainly not the definitive solution to the problem. Peoples attitudes about how many waves are feasible and sharing with others is also a key!!

i think maybe what might work at wave spots is a sign clearly showing the conveyer belt system and how to work it.. something like what they have for surfers at margs. but for windsurfers and kiters..

on a massive sign so the kiters can't miss it. heh

Just etch it into a mirror, all the kiters will be lined up looking at it then
