Using only basic surfing equipment (2 helicopters, 90 ft trawler and half a dozen jet skis but no "meat trucks")Mr Carroll and Mr Clarke Jones have pioneered a new spot on the map of Tassi. Photos of their adventure made the front page of The Mercury (themercury.com.au) and are to be screened on Sixty Minutes this Sunday night. To have your own secret spot receive international exposure please contact the program.

Unlike "shipsterns" this spot is probably very sailable as it is a very very windy location. The remoteness, cold water and need for a 90 foot boat will probably keep the crowds small.

To score that day without wind is pretty rare. Amazing looking place.

Yes it would go cross off. I don't know 100% what the perfect wind direction is yet but as I understand it the wave breaks heading N. W to NW would be cross off. That means the prevailing winter winds would combine perfectly with the big swells.

This is just word of mouth so don't take it as gospel. I need to get back to Tassie to talk to some people about it.

That wave is ridiculous!!!!

That's the kind of spot you don't need to keep secret, cos Polakow and Pottssy are probably the only 2 people in the world who would be loony enough to sail it!

I mean that with all due respect...

Secret spot my arse. I told tc and rcj about it. I've been sailing there since the 60's. It's only about 6 hours from shore. I sailed out there by myself and was cutting sick way before the safety of jetski's and boats. The first day I sailed it it was a least double as big as those photo's and I wasn't shoulder hopping like those girls.

thats nothing. I swam my gear out there (and it only took me 4 hours) because it wasn't windy enough. I rigged it up in the water and then sailed it.

60 Minutes ran out of tape just as Tom and Ross were starting to talk about how awesome they think I am. Might give them a call this arvo, put it on speaker phone and let them tell me again. They'll probably want to toss a coin to see who gets to go first.

The 60s? You must've been on one of the Schweitzer prototypes, with the removable daggerboard (or weren't they invented yet?), tie-on wooden boom, the whole shebang...much respect, man...so how did that old gear hold up in quadruple mast-high waves and 40+ knot winds, anyhow?

Bet it went like a dream...
