Are there any lightweight "non-slim" wave booms, that you could recommend?

I have an Enigma carbon boom from Severne, it is very lightweight and nice in all aspects appart from the tube diameter. It feels a little too slim to me, and I get cold fingers in cold weather (more than I will get on regular boom diameters in the same weather).

what is your enigma 25mm?

Why do you think that the cold fingers are related to the boom diameter? If anything, I believe a slim diameter boom minimises forearm tension, thereby preserving blood flow and warmth to your hands. I would think it's actually better, if there's a difference at all.

I have an enigma wave boom and find it a little too narrow in diameter. I prefer to use a Point 7 carbon wave boom simply because the greater diameter suits my hands better. Unfortunately I don't think anyone is bringing them in to Australia any more.

Fatter bends less and is marginally stronger. So I like them
but I do think it won't be the solution for comfort, as others said above

from memory I think north Duotone platinum

The chinook carbon boom is perfect for the people who prefer a larger diam , also the unifiber boom and neil pryde . hope that helps

I've now done a few measurement on my booms and the Enigma is about 26.0-26.5mm near the harness line positions (and with grip of coarse). My other booms are around 30 and 32mm, and these feel much more natural to me.

I haven't tried the difference in the same session but from one day to another, changing from wave to slalom gear for instance, I feel a clear difference. I don't have any problems with forearm cramp on booms of around 30-32mm (if I'm not wearing full gloves), so don't really need anything smaller in diameter. With the Enigma boom it feels like the blood flow to the finger tips is being hindered more, so while the rest of the body and hands are doing fine the fingertips are getting very cold.

Streamlined is 29cm, Chinook isn't totally slim. Otherwise dish washing gloves, ha!

Interesting, thanks for letting us know SurferKris. I thought maybe in wave conditions you fall more or you're using that gear on stronger days which might both result in colder wind chill, but sounds like its something specific to your grip indeed.

I just ordered the new Simmer freewave boom which is 27 mm. Should be good.

Interesting. Usually everyone is happier with the smaller diameters. Have you checked if you grab somehow different on the Enigma? Sounds more to me that you need to commit to your harness on the wave gear. But its just a guess

Yes, 27mm tubes sounds good.
I should have been more specific, I need a boom that goes down to 140cm and that I cannot see in the Simmer range. All their shortest booms are 25mm?

The 140 simmer boom with small diameter is way less fatiguing than my larger diameter booms.

I usually don't have any problems with fatigue and I'm still using Formula gear in light winds (there the tube diameter is about 30mm, if I remember correctly). It is then nice to step down from that onto slalom gear and smaller boom diameters, but the Enigma wave boom just feels too narrow.

I should have a old carbon boom in the shed, might dig that out in order to compare, it is a fair bit heavier though.
