why does everyone always goto rye...

had a squizz at the coast line from the top of arthurs seat and the beach/wind and sandbars looks the same from just before safety bay all the way to sorento....

why not any of the other spots north or south of rye.

To the west, Sorrento and Blairgowrie are full of boat moorings and limited parking. The only thing you are allowed to sail in Sorrento is a Couta Boat, and you have to wear a Captains hat and rugby jumper and drink Pims

To the east, the foreshore along Rosebud to Arthurs Seat is littered with caravan and camping grounds, so limits parking to the highway.

Further east to Dromana and safety beach the N to NE wind can be disturbed by the Mt Martha cliffs. SW to NW is good though.

Rosebud also has extremely low sandbanks (just a couple of inches deep) which tends to make it the prefered hang out for kiters.

I only go there in a northerly because I suck going into waves on the right-foot-forward tack. However if yesterday is anything to go from, seems these SW are pushing against the northerlies so the north wind doesn't make it down to Rye. Was at Rye in 10knots, checking my mobile to see 26 at Point Wilson and 23 at Fawkner for a lot of the day. Very frustrating.

As Shouldbegood pointed out, as it gets warmer the north winds may not make it across the bay.
