Does anyone know where to go to get a bit of wind at Lakes Entrance. I am heading there with the family in a couple weeks and I wouldnt mind getting some time on the water.
I have seen guys sailing near the foot bridge thats about all i have seen there, lots of water though I assume there would be a strong current at times. You could always offer to take the family to Metung for lunch, I have always thought it looks good there.

JMAN's is right, Metung is great for flat water...works on anything with South in it
There's a nice bump and jump spot at the end of the Silt Jetties on the Mitchell River, otherwise the back lake (Bunga Arm) can be interesting if it is really blowing.
For the last few years I have sailed off the Point at Raymond Island...its got flat water inside the point and a bit of chop once you get out. Just watch for d#ckhead boaties ( I got run over by a hire boat here in April)

Paynesville is usually awesome, Metung is also a good bet off the point. In Lakes itself I usually sail on the Cunningham arm (there's a good launch are half way up from the bridge and the sea breeze is predicable). High tide is best as there are a lot off weeds and last year the seemed worse than normal. The North arm is less predictable (I once back flipped the cat there) but can offer good runs in the right winds. It has plently of good rigging area but the muddy bottom stinks to hell when you stir it up.
Lake Tyres used to be awesome (by far the best within a few mins of Lakes) but the water level has been too low the last few years to tack through the channel to get to the better reaches. Last year the bar was opened and that made it worse (though the fishing improved) and I think this year I'll just take surfboards and rods. First anual holiday in lakes without a sailboard since I begun in 94 but my car got smaller and my girlfiend took up surfing so roof space is limited. I'll see what I can manage though. :)
I would go to Paynseville as first option these days. It's 30-40 min from Lakes but usually worth it. The sail repair bloke there is also fantastic. :)
