Hi All
Sorry for the parody :) (i've been dying to use that one)
I am going to Melbourne next week for a course. I'll be staying at Laverton. After hours, I plan on visiting the surrounds using public transport (namely the train).
I was wondering what people here would recommend seeing ?. I wouldn't mind having a look at some of your beaches (ie: Saint Kilda, Sorento might be pushing it), but I have no idea of the time scale needed to get to them via train/bus etc. Somebody at work joked that I need to carry a knife with me on the train !. Is the train system bad, or was my colleague joking ?
Any advice/tips would be much appreciated :)

from laverton you could catch the train to the city then a tram out to st kilda if there is a seabreeze. maybe 1.5hrs max?
Heaps of kiters plus a host of windsurfers that are a little further north. Plenty of action walking along the footpath as well...
Yeah the public transport (in the west) can be a little dodgy at times but no different from down south in adelaide.
LAVERTON !! (thats miles from anywhere)
dig in, with some beers and broadband, and hopefully the course will be over quickly!!![]()
Thanks guys. 1.5hrs from Laverton to Saint Kilda
. Might have to settle for a CBD visit only. Not really inclined to hire a car- New city and all. I would rather have somebody else drive and me look around. Yes, the purpose of the visit is the course, and I'll probably be doing lots of after-hours study.

Nah, get on the public transport...it's pretty good, and it's the easiest way to 'tour' Melb. I'm not a local myself, when I want to go to Melbourne, I stay in Geelong and catch the train over, using public t/port. Sure beats horse & cart like we have around here!![]()

. When I first moved to Adelaide, I grabbed a map and jumped on a bunch of buses. Best advice to anybody going to a new city :). I look forward to seeing your city guys :) (or a bit of it anyway).
