Fingers crossed i will be able to go for a sail on the Yara tomorrow thursday the 25th just across the river from Flinders St. Hopefully all will go well as it is part of a promotional event for the up and coming World Cup Event in Melbourne in only three weeks time
This is the dinghy event at Black Rock right? Someone from that club was telling me about the World Cup event yesterday....
I was there as a rep for Windsurfing Victoria and we had good turnout. Some big cleb's like John Bertrand, Ron Barassi and Nick Green from the awesome foursome were all there. Plus other great names from sailing world.
They had a couple of boats and Luke from QLD on a RS-X on the Yarra sailing around with the light breeze fighting the tide of the river. Photos and videos will be posted by Sail Melbourne on their website soon.
The sailing world cup includes the Olympic class RS-X and the BIC Techno 293 youth class. A class we need to help promote and grow in Victoria.
The sailing world cup is based from the Sandringham Yacht Club from the 12th - 18th Dec 2010. If you would like to know more about the world cup please refer the Sail Melbourne website and the WV website for other windsurfing events around the sailing world cup.http://sailmelbourne.com.au/website/home.html

There was a Herald Sun Photographer taking pics of the sailer with a blonde hottie. Don't know if the windsurfer got any limelight. I'd left as he was rigging.
Not long after you left they all went out the water for the photo shoot. We were up stairs with the presentation at that time. The next photo shoot outside was cut short due to the rain.
Wow what an interesting day, i suppose not many people can say they have sailed on the yara.
Sail Melbourne is Australia's biggest Olympic Class event is the first event of the World Cup. This event will be some of the best windsurfers in the world to our shores of australia and is well worth coming down at some point to watch some of the action. I will there representing Australia at this event so feel free to come down and have a chat as i am very keen to build this class in Australia.
I'm a bit dissapointed it didn't make the Herald Sun or any of the major news networks.
A footballer farts and that gets the headlines, yet we have a world class event(s) and not even a sniff in any of the major media streams.
It was on the Ch 10 news last night. A clent of mine spotted it and spoke to me about it today on site.
i have been screaming about this event for years its the first time that it has been listed on the aust windsurf calender the cashed up bogans hate it because its one design
Here are some links from the opening event etc. It's only 10 days away.http://sailmelbourne.com.au/CustomContentRetrieve.aspx?ID=1091486

Keep an eye out for further news about weekend windsurfer racers and another new one design class coming real soon. This class is to help bridge the gap between the youth Techno 293 and the Olympic RS-X classes.
