20+ kts ESE predicted for the weekend - which is offshore for the eastern beaches of PP Bay. Is there anywhere reasonably safe for beginners and intermediates in ESE winds reasonably close to Melbourne - perhaps on the western side of PP Bay?

Or maybe Lysterfield?

Thanks

Lysterfeild does not work in east winds, sorry dude. Every one sails south rickets and mentone in ESE winds on the eastern side, but there not beginner spots.

I would say that Mentone would be suitable for a beginner, no reef and easy access to the water unlike South Rickets.

Mentone could be worth checking out :)

Try Altona near the pier. Only trouble is it's full of kites so keep further west. It's shallow and the breeze really blows in late in the arvo. Good for advanced sailors when its on.

If you're thinking Sandy Point, the 2 foot predicted at Woolamai will probably mean 2 inches at Waratah

Beyond the pier at Tona for me...

That said, 2-3 foot at Woolamai could be pretty good

i'm just going off the seabreeze swellographs,,,

2m with a bit of a push from the wind on a beachy should knock up a decent wave at SP....

was thinking of flinders big leftty ????, or not enough on the swellograph for here...??

not quite "close to Melbourne", but if you are up for a bit of distance, given SP is looking like a 30kn easterly on Saturday, Inverloch will probably be good too.

Point Cook - great for beginners - try and go at high tide - but still works in low tide.

Yeh there too. Have to walk 250m through the reserve to the beach but grassy rigging and plenty of rough on the bar. The Point Cook Coastal Park, centre of image where the square piece of road is.

Have fun K Dog, I ain't going anywhere near there! That Ol' Altona Shark is there just waiting to bite someone's bollocks off!!! And becuse I spend more time in the water (for now) than on the board, I'd rather not take my chances!

Eeek!!! Anyone know any shark attack survival techniques??? I heard that they hate the smell/tastse of pi$$ and if you gouge them in the eye's (apparently quite sensitive) you will send them fleeing....? Not that I am encouraging anyone to pi$$ themselves at sandy harbour, smells bad enough as it is!
