Hi all,
I want to start windsurfing, and have been looking all over for a good place to start.
I see there are a couple of places in Melbourne that teach (which I am prepared to go to), but am wondering if there's a place in Geelong? I can't find it if there is one.
Cheers everyone!
This looks like a great series of free introductions to windsurfing.

None, I'm afraid, appear to be anywhere near Geelong.
Good luck and have fun! This can be a beautifully sublime and adrenaline-infused sport.
Call in at Stonker in Torquay? They sell w/surf & kiting gear. From memory I think the guys there teach kiting, and they hire out demo w/surfing gear. They might be able to help you.
...Just don't let them talk you into taking kite lessons!![]()
Otherwise, there are a couple of Geelong guys on here that will answer your question, you just have to give them until midday when they get out of bed.![]()

Hey, I resemble that comment!
Chris I'm just restarting again, (Saturday actually with a bit o luck)). Red, NasiGoreng and a few others should be along shortly......
Looks like in Geelong it's Pt Henry, Lake Connewarre, st Leonards, depends on the wind direction and what creature you prefer to sail with. Eels, stingrays, noahs.
hey its only 8.58.
Get down to Elwood this weekend for the season opener. Locals will be there to offer you advice and you can get a feel for the windsurfing scene in Vic.
Its a great place to start.
Come down to Elwood Sailing Club satdee avo. We'd be glad to give you a couple of pointers and the guys from the shop will be there to advise on lessons etc etc.
Cheers,
Jon
Elwood Sailboarders
just turn up at cozy corner on the day or point henry people who windsurf are general frendly and more than likely happy to give you advise as we have all been beginers at some stage and at the very least your giving it ago
post a pic of your pins and....
do you have board and rig amigo? theres much better places to Wsurf in gtown than melbs. we get different winds and theres some awesome spots around.
Nasi.
ps, if you dont have kit just get an old longy and il prob have some rig to fit. that way you can at least go fast, learn to steer and have a quicker learning curve. ..blah blah for under $250.
once your hooked in the harness for 90% of the time its time to get funky with the gear.
pm me for a chat.
aint that the truth nasi keep it local and if you need a hand chris talk to me aint doin nothen got a broken leg can give tution for rum
Just keep an eye on these forums- one of us often posts when and where we are going. A few of us sail mainly flat water (Pt Henry, Lake Connewarre, Swan Bay) so you are more than welcome to join us when we are out. Whilst I am no expert, I can give pointers if I am around, as would any of the other guys.
Do you have any gear yet?
What do you mean keep a eye on us ? Get a kit, go sailing. What we need to do is nurture these punters. Obvously they need strength and guidence otherwise they will start kite boarding .![]()

Cheers everyone!
I've got yacht racing on Saturday afternoons, or else I'd head to Elwood for sure! In a couple of weeks I can.
Don't have a kit yet, was gonna do some lessons first and hopefully the teacher dude could tell me what kind I'd need to get (don't wanna buy a board that I'm gonna 'outgrow' in only a little while!)
Pt Henry is cool, so is Lake Connawarre and Swan Bay, they're just stones throws away!
Just get RGYC to drop the downwind mark for Saturday's race at Elwood. Southerly predicted for Saturday so a kite leg all the way there from Geelong. Pack it up quick, jump overboard and swim in. They won't need you when they're beating back to Geelong, will they? Any windsurfer will give you a lift back home if you show that kind of dedication.
