Where is every one windsurfing this weekend?
Being Christmas some of you may be lucky enough to get out. Myself I will be driving to Canberra this afternoon/night for Christmas with family and won’t be back until Monday. Hopefully back in time for the forecast winds on Monday. Fingers crossed. If so I will be at Bonno.
Refer to the extract from BOM forecast below for Port Philip Bay.

Hi am down for Xmas with the inlaws am from nsw central coast and will be looking for people to sail with Sunday or Monday not too sure on where will be best in this forecast. Am staying about an hours drive from torquay any ideas?
I'm likely to head to Inverloch on Sunday for some safe sailing practice for my partner Lari, then the Pit or Swan Bay on Monday for a go at knocking those Tasmaniacs off the top of the speed challenge ladder!!

depends if the sun comes the f*ck out.
if i can feel my hands I'll be trying to hook into some Pt Danger.
If its rainy and cold I'll be under the influence.
So where did everyone end up sailing?
Got a decent morning sail at Pt. Leo with about 10 windsurfers out at the beginning. Then I took my fin off on the reef. Drove to Shoreham in the afternoon just to watch Sam lose his fin in 5 minutes. Shame we have so many rocks.
hazelwood pondage. SW winds really honk down through it and it's warm like a spa bath. Does anyone else sail it?
AWESOME hair cut! i totally love that place hazelwood pondage.. i have to get back there some time.. thanks for the pics i cant believe hardly no one windsurfs there..its the closest feeling to sailing hood river the gorge for me..
Inverloch today. Nice 15-20 knot SW wit hthe occasional 25 knot squal.
Haircut - Great pics. Nice backdrop. What's it like for weed?
Thanks guys.
I've water ski'd or swum in it for 30 years and I've never ever seen weed on it, except for blue green algae. It's just always murky looking. It does have a bit of a tang and I'm still waiting for my second head to start to grow ![]()
it's surprisingly consistent providing the wind is ssw around to wsw - too much west and the hill blocks the wind. East can work too, though I've never sailed it in an easterly, but I've cursed it when I've been water skiing. The chop is fairly spread out and manageable. Hot days usually end up with a 15-20 knot seabreeze from the east by 3pm.
There used to be a dedicated windsurfing club launch spot on the southeast corner (pony club entrance) but it's been closed off by the pony club due to lack of use I'd guess. Too be honest, it's no great loss as the wind is a bit better down the powerboating end (powerstation end) in all sailable directions. By the time it's windy enough to sail, it's too windy for most powerboat users anyway and you've got the place to yourself.
I don't have any pix that show the whole dam, but I'll take a few next time I go down. Here are a couple more recent ones. The dam is about 1km wide at the narrow end and about 2km wide at the wider end. It must be about 2km long from end to end? The runs are long enough for me.
Cheers ![]()
I sailed there a few times in the late '80's and early '90's.
I remember being surprised how much less floaty the board felt in fresh water.
(except one day when I couldn't keep my trusty electric rock down on the water!!)
-wish I had some pics of way back then.
Used to drive past it every week in 07 when I went to Uni at Churchill. I would definately sail there if I lived local or was heading past but unfortunately it is a fair hike. In the middle of winter I could imagine you wanting to fall in just to stay warm.
