I regularly see bits of jelly washed up near chelsea, but never think much of it. Mass suicide?

Not that i am complaining, i hate jellies.

Maybe they have migrated to Andersons Inlet. I keep running into them down there at the moment. They're not as big as some that I've seen in Port Phillip though, 10-15cm across.

KDog, sorry to hear you are missing them. Don't worry, it's still a bit early.
They'll come.

K Dog, If you are missing the jellies that much, come sail Western Port with me some time.

Why do you glow at night? Maybe its all the glowsticks! Party on!

I think all the rain - fresh water - has killed them off. Well that's my theory.

I was reminded of jellies the other week when I hit a plastic bag on gybe entry. Good learnings on keeping body weight low.

I haven't seen any in the water this year... there were loads two years ago.. not sure what temp was like then.

what breed/ tupe are the big blue ones you see in the bay?
the ones with 5 or 6 big thick fluffy tentacles?

do they sting and how venomous are they?

seen hundreds in my time, but never landed on one.

There are some that sting. Not sure about those ones... been done by the brownish ones.... doesn't really hurt, or really hurt for long.... just a little slight burnish feeling..... no jellyfish stingers to really worry about in the bay...... I don't think I have ever even seen a blue bottle in there........

agreed - you just dont want to land in the jelly-soup like in the photo.

I did get stung on the thigh once, big bugger about 18inches across, numbed the whole leg for about 1hr and stung like buggery. Eventually went away.
