For me the last 6 months or so has made me think hard and long about where my windsurfing is going. Due to medical constraints, I can no longer push my limits with speed. So I ask you, What windsurfing locations or events are on your bucket list?
For me, -Lake George, Burrum Windfest, Green Island.
What's yours?
Lake George
Defi France
Lakes Entrance Long board overnighter
GI was but no longer
Don't be put off by the friendly banter old salty. Green Island is a magic place. Even if you don't go for an organised event. There is great gear to rent straight off the beach, and wind is very consistent and predictable. Coming from the depths of winter its awesome to get back into boardies and a rashie for a few days. I recommend you put it back on your bucket list ![]()

Hey young salty, lets get that Gippland Lakes idea flowing!
(when it warms up a bit.
)
I guess you have heard about the old Hollands Landing to Lakes Entrance day trip's from the early '80's. 50+ longboards, 95% of them Windsurfer OD's setting of on a fun sail. Not a race. We stopped on the beaches three or four times before Paynesville to allow everyone to regroup and have a chat and a snack. Payneville was lunch break, and then off to LE via Metung. I remember the wind gradually dying as the sun sank behind me, hoping I would make it to LE before it became dark and windless. I just made it before both!
some others didn't...........![]()
OTOH, we could do it the civilized way with an overnight break and a nice meal and bed in Paynesville or Metung. ![]()
I recon I could still remember how to kick a centreboard up and down without falling in! ![]()
For me, apart from joining young salty on his cruise.....
A couple of months at Lake George in my impending retirement,
A long drive around Australia checking out all my GPSTC friends and their local spots.
And maybe if funds will stretch, another one or two trips overseas to the best speed sailing venues in the world.
