Check algae reports ahead of time.....

Been to Lake Bullen Merri Camperdown, very nice lake, has trout, clean and deep. No crazy logs and trees....

Turned up and it was 15-20 knots easy..... didn't sail.... won't say why ..... the remainder of the time no wind at all..... got planning once on 8.5m sail, and that was it.......

Go when there is huge wind around....... it is a scenic place to sail....

To add to Sailhack's list, I've had fun sailing at..
Brown's Lake (Lake Cope Cope)
Lake Batyo Catyo
Lake Charm
Lake Nillahcootie
Lake Eildon
(you've missed out on Lake Mokoan, it's been decomissioned)

I taught myself to windsurf on Lake Benalla but I wouldn't say it's a good spot. However, if you live in town and aren't old enough to drive then it beats carrying a wally any further distances. :)

I've been meaning to try Green Hill Lake near Ararat... camped once or twice there - only $5 a night, friendly Ranger comes around.

A little off the grid, but 1km away is the 24hr Caltex and Ararat itself is only 5 minutes further up the road. Water has only come back last few years, but I was told that it used to be a good WS spot in it's day ??
