I was going to head down to point danger this weekend.

This may seem like a stupid question but there will be other people out sailing, won't there?

It's just I haven't sailed there before and I get the jitters sailing a new place all on my own!

you won't be alone, if there's good wind you'll always find a couple of guys on the water.
If wind is W point danger is crap, this place is for SW winds. If wind stay W you'd better go to 13th beach

No other way to describe it other than

"I bottled it and sailed in the bay"

I went down portland way surfing - I was expecting it to be nuclear but it looked around 20kts.
On the way back in the back we stopped at this beach and saw these 3 guys out having fun in WSW conditions. There were some pretty serious closeouts out the back!

Hey eddy, were you one of the 70+ surfers off Blacknose? How was it? I went for a sail, got wetty on, ran into the water (tried to time it, but missed by seconds) & got trashed by the 1st shorebreak! expensive times! the swell was amazing!

That pic looks like East beach at Pt Fairy?

Agree, lots of guys sail over there Iv'e only been fortunate enough to sail at Point Danger once a couple of years ago, it was early autumn and around 25 guys on the water. Not sure how many were local, lots of guys from Melboure area.

There are just to many good spots to sail on a sw

yeah I was one of those 70 out, crowd "moderated" to 50 when my mate and I paddled out. Like queensland but not as much agro and about 10 degrees colder.

My mate and I ended up driving 11hrs in total that day, all for 20 waves between us! (and one smashed up custom board). yep the waves were good but there is a pretty high level of surfing out there, hard to get the good ones (or any at all). Went surfing later on at another place that wasn't so crowded and got some fun waves also, a pretty good day road trip.

On the way back we checked out a few spots (mainly to see huge swell) and came across these guys at killarney beach, nice camp ground behind the dune. I would WS there for sure.

Killarney's a good spot! Haven't sailed there, but caught some good fish there! (good cray spot if you're into snorkelling!)
