I would just like to give a big thanks to everyone who helped me get into the beach after damaging my knee last Thursday.
In particular, I would especially like to thank Martin Love who raised the alarm & co-ordinated the actions, Craig for towing me to a safe beach landing and Simon & Al who swam out and drove me back to the car-park. (Sorry may have names wrong as I was a little out of it at the time).
After a week of scans and doctors appointments, I have a "Acute Medial Cruciate Ligament Rupture" which thankfully will not require surgery.....just a brace, rest and recovery. I won't be back on the water this summer but given what could have happened I am pretty thankful!
Thanks again to all & safe sailing.
Adam
Oh Bugger Adam, was hoping for your sake it was just a displaced Patella and it would all be OK. I hope you didn't get whacked around the head too much with my boom during my feeble attempt to tow you in, Spotti was a bit more successful.
No probs helping out what so ever.
Hey mate, I was the guy yelling at you to sheet in harder on those forward attempts. Did you do your injury on one of the attemps ? How did it happen?
I lost sight of you and assumed you had gone in, glad someone else spotted you though.
Thanks for your support guys.
Windaddict: Yes I damaged my knee over rotating forward attempt. Basically, I was out back and went for one off a bigger wave, with full power on (& fully sheeted in) I spun really fast in the air. I didn't have a chance to unload when the board hit the water. The board stopped but unfortunately I kept spinning with my knee taking the brunt of the load.
In hindsight (and in true "Im indestructible" male form), there was a lot of risks that I hadn't considered. My jumping is woeful on Star tack and don't have the control that I have on port tack, the wind was gusty and the chop variable....and it was solid 4.2m conditions. All that meant it probably wasn't the best day to be working on my looping 'technique'. Painful way to learn a lesson though
.
In future, I think I'll leave the forwards to you & Jman......instead I might keep working to refine my duck jibes and crappy tacks
