Hi guys, for anyone that loves Bonbeach or any of our other sea side suburbs and the Frankston line you need to be aware that there is a good chance elevated rail will be put in to 'solve' the level crossing issues (if it hasnt been decided already). Thes stations will be at least 15m high. In fact this time of the year the structure would cast a shadow all the way to the beach as the sun rises and it will be the only thing you see for miles as you sail back in.

www.suncalc.org/

if this goes in it will set a precedence for the rest of the line so please dont think this may not impact you. Im a local at bonbeach i love the beachside feel and i am not ready to see a structure that for the next 150 will tower above all the houses in the area. If you would like to help please sign this petition www.change.org/p/cpl-forum-no-sky-rail-for-frankston-line

and get to one of these official consulations to stress your view http://levelcrossings.vic.gov.au/crossings/frankston-line scroll down to community section

its an indirect topic i know but the same as variations in boating zones it will redefine our communities.

... vs. having the traffic line up for hours on end, creating a traffic jam... as that isn't an eyesore ?

I dont really have an opinion whether it would be an eyesore or not, as other elevated rail structures such as the light-rail in St Kilda look quite elegant... vs long lines of traffic

What alternative could be applied to instead ?

Underground, they are hinting the water table is an issue while spruking the new metro rail tunnel under the Yarra... Which is at sea level! Bonbeach is not even congested or dangerous it's on the list because it was a swinging seat in the election. I see the traffic jams on Bondi road, they are 5 cars deep, it's residential and surrounded by the wetlands so the population is not that big. It will go in at Edithvale as well, it needs to be done properly and put underground.

I would like to see a 3D simulation of the elevated rail in Google Earth compared with what's there now. For most of the length of the Frankston line the houses behind are lower than the railway so the current infrastructure blocks views. It's possible that an elevated rail would clear the ground level and open up views.

I live just across from the rail in Chelsea.

How are they going to have elevated rail in Edithvale and then again in Bonbeach, but not Chelsea? Are they making a roller coaster?

TBH I am more concerned with the sound. If they do this I hope that the sides are enclosed to the extent that it projects the sound up and not out. The higher it is the more the noise will travel.

Perhaps they should get rid of most if not all current level crossings and fork the traffic between Nepean Hwy and Station Street. Then they could build several pedestrian underpasses for locals to get to the beach and where the density allows also some underpasses for vehicles between the train stations and linking Station Street and Nepean Hwy. Digging rail tunnels would be difficult with the water table.

What's the cost difference?

1 underground to 10 above maybe?

Sometimes its comes down to $
