Have recently moved to the Mornington Peninsula (Rye) and was wondering if anyone can shed any further light on the best places to sale in any given wind direction.

N - Rye is an obvious starting point; however I still don't understand why the wind "peters" out by the time it gets to Rye.

W / SW - This is the wind direction I really need help with. Does anyone sale Gunamatta or any of the back beaches?

SW - Flat water at Balnarring.

SSW - S - Shoreham seems to work nicely (but can't have too much westerly in the wind!)

Any other locations would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

W, WSW and maybe SW try Rosebud to Safety Beach. Bump and jump on wind blown chop. Safe because it's onshore

For SE to ESE, you could try Flinders back beach next to the golf course for some wave sailing. Not for the inexperienced though. Lots of fun but lots of reef and rock too.

I've never sailed any of the peninsula back beaches west of Cape Schank so I'd be interested to hear if someone does sail there. I'd think it would either have to be very west or very cross onshore SE for it to work.
