Hi Guys,
Looking at making a virgin trip down to Sandy Point this Friday.
Need some info.
What are the best forecasts on the net for that area. I am looking at Lakes Entrance on seabreeze only at the moment. Any info would be greatly appreciated as dont want to drive 7 hours to find it was a waste of time.
Also, anyone stayed at the Fish Creek Hotel. Is the accom, food and beers good. Im guessing if we get a sail Ill be looking for a decent hotshower as well.
Any info appreciated. Ive got fingers crossed for some decent conditions.
Cheers.

Yikes, 7 hour drive! I think I'll let the sandy point experts answer this one, don't want to be responsible for getting you to drive down when there is no wind. So far seems Sunday might be the day.
www.bom.gov.au/marine/wind.shtml
On the current forecast model I am not sure I would be driving 7 hrs
But it may all change tommorrow!!!
Forecast - www.windguru.cz/15753
Low tide about 1pm Saturday,2pm Sunday - low tide is best!
Sunday and Monday look like the best chance at this stage.
I have had a beer and a counter meal at the Fishy pub and it's not bad(Don't say anything bad about cows and you should be ok
)
With the seabreeze forcast usually the metro forecast is more likely to be accurate at Sandy Point than in the bay
East coast forecast wont get anywhere near it!
If you are aiming to have a go on the speed strip - then dont... the forecast isn't looking that good at the moment. Otherwise, its looking like 15kn at best.
This should give you an idea if its windy - the speed strips work on a W-SW or E:http://www.earthsci.unimelb.edu.au/~awatkins/prom.html
Note that for the W/SW direction, it reads higher than what the PiT actually gets.
Leman,
Coming down from Eden. Got a great bay here but itching to get down to some smooth water.
Will just have to keep watching it. If not this weekend then one very soon.![]()
Well Saturday and Sunday look promising at this point. Not sure if northerlies are any good at sandy point. Others may know.
Any other nearby spots for a good sail in other wind directions in that area? Keen to go somewhere new so if Sandy isnt working then we'd be looking to get cold elsewhere.
Cheers
Inverloch is 20 minutes closer to Melbourne but wind direction this weekend is not ideal. Best on SW, S, and SE
Itching to go.
Using your experience of the BOM forecast (normally here its totally wrong) do you think we will get a sail at Sandy or close by. Sunday looks promising.
Where, based on the latest forecast do you think we should head. If it means Melbourne we will be there. It will be good to have a sail and a few beers no matter where we need to go. Gotta love a road trip.
All suggestions/experience appreciated

Rye Yacht club - Sat morning,Sat afternoon and Sunday morning.
Probably 15 - 25 sat,maybe 30 - 40 on Sunday.
NO SP EXPERT..but from memory,, i wouldn't be driving 7 hours for a northley...very choppy.
maybe a ne with lots of east in it .. for the other bank on low tide.
leman - if it's on i'll be there at the crack. if not i'll be surfin on the other side.
Back in Eden. Thanks to all the friendly guys at Rye over the last two days. Made us feel very welcome. Its a good spot - though we got blown off the water this morning.
See you there again and ley us know if you head for a sail up this way.
Great weekend though I need a smaller board![]()
Ellobuddha, cant believe our wind meters were reading only 20knots this morning. I have never been consistently flattened on my 4.2 in 20knots
Might check the batteries.
True to typical Melbourne form the wind died at lunch then a westerly squall hit around mid afternoon...anyone out when that hit?
After we packed up I took another reading in a "lull' and still read 32.9 - it only picked back up from that. ![]()

It was great to meet you Ellobuddha and your friend. I am glad that Victoria and Rye put on a good show for you, both with the wind and a great turn out of local sailors. Would have been embarrassing if we said drive 7 hours to Rye only to find no wind.
Still can't believe you haven't had a sail since summer. I go crazy if it's been 2 weeks.
Catch you next time.
