Hi fellas, just got a qustion??? do many of you guys sail Raymond island?? SHQ use to run windsurf holidays down there.. and i was down there one day and saw a kitesurfer kiting the place. It looked unreal for windsurfing, the wind was real clean and consistant.. The conditons look good for bump and jump type of windsurfing, cause the lake looked pretty choppy.. but i must say i think it would have to be one the best lakes i have ever seen for windsurfing.

I have relatives down there, they have easily convinced me to stay with them for a couple days due to its windsurfing conditions.
Its meant to be a top bump and jump spot.
According to Wind Spots, there are only like 1 or 2 local windsurfers, so youll have the lake to yourself :P

Ill let you know how awesome it is in a couple weeks :D

hey flipp44444444444444444
I sail it whenever I can get a few days away.
Good on anything with South in it.
I reckon theres some B and J spots close by which might be better than the windward side of the island....just take a day and do some exploring...i mean the place is surrounded a full 360' by water!!

In terms of on the Island, theres nice cross shore launching from Gravelly Point on the south side of the island. Carstairs Bank can be interesting- this is where the chop breaks over some shallow banks in the middle of the lake.
Otherwise the approach to the Straits up near Fort King Road is good on a Easterly.

Once upon a time there used to be a race around the island, I competed in the last one they ran on my Wayler Breeze with 7.0 Tyronsea sail.

I do remember there seemed to be a bit of weed around at times and plenty of mozzies, we camped there for a night then thought stuff this and drove to Mallacota the next day to escape the mozzies.

I used to go to the lakes way back when, as a kid every xmas, and the local shops used to sell there own "local" heavy duty insect repellant because the bugs used to laugh at the weak city bought stuff.

Awsome spot for sailing there at the lakes though, done plenty of dinghy and cat sailing there and a handfull of Marlay point overnight races. All three lakes are great for sailing, but as said above a bit weedy and also muddy in some spots

Sailquik and myself raced in it two+ years ago... the plan was for some formula sailing, showing how modern gear is oh so much faster...

The wind decided to show up, with around 25kn+ on the course... At that point the one-design sailors trucked upwind, and with 5ft swell, sailing around the island was hard work. Total lap time for me was over two hours; the fastest OD was just over 1hr.
