Heading down to Aires inslet this weekend. Looks like there will be north westerlies all week end. Is there anywhere to sail down the West Coast with this direction that's alright?
hi there fishlogan, I'm going to be at Aireys this w/e, though probably only Sunday / Monday. In the past (it was the 90's) I used to sail Urquharts Bluff, in pretty much any wind direction from NW to SSW. I remember it as always being fantastic.
Im no expert on the area but I would think that NW would be very off-shore at Aireys Inlet.
When I stay at my father in laws place at Jan Juc, I would usually sail 13th beach on a NW which is more or less side shore. The only problem is when it is big its really hard work and you need to be a good wave sailor to have any fun. Unfortunately, I am not a good wave sailor and last weekend I didn't even make it out the back and got smashed
.
Would be good to know if the are other options on the West Coast for NW wind.
Was planning on checking 13th or maybe further around near ocean grove. But never heard of urqharts bluff. But keen to check it though.
In Google Maps, enter Urquhart Bluff, Victoria, Australia.
In Directions, enter start point of Anglesea, end point Urquhart Bluff. Its about 8 klicks from Anglesea, heading to Lorne.
Good memories when I surfed there.
Flat water sailing at Swan Bay, Queenscliff if that helps. King st, QLYC. Excellent on anything with a north in it. Low tide around midday.
