I'm heading for Melbourne and I need some informations about the windsurfing conditions. I will live in Melbourne from beginning of February to end of May.
Unfortunately I don't have a car right know but I'm thinking about to buy one to drive to the windsurfing spots. Is there any possibility to store my gear next to a good windsurfing spot so that I don't need a car?
May be I can find an accomodation close to a surfing spot at the bay. Any suggestions for a good location? My office is at Collins Street, so it shouldn't be to far away.
I'm looking for a board with about 100l which works at the bay and in small waves as well. I don't want to buy a lot of sails. Maybe only one.
So what do you think would be the best sail choice for a guy with a bit more than 90kg who only wants to buy one or maximum two sails.
Hi Andreas, you will be at the tail end of the seabreeze season (SW in the arvo) until March with some possible northerlies. April is usually depending on the weather systems what you get. That kind of narrows it down where you want to sail without a car. S- SW is good all the way up to Elwood and Middle Park, whilst the closest spot for N is Green Point Brighton. Suggest to check with the board stores (ie ZU, RPS and SHQ) if you can leave your gear there and for advice. They have heaps of gear (new, 2nd hand or even demo). Around 6m would do you fine, I'm in a similar weight class
. May / June is normally pretty ordinary. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the answer. After spending some time in Lancelin I'm really keen on wavesailing. Any idea if I can find a wavesailing spot next to Melbourne? The area arround shoreham looks intersting at the map.
I know it's always hard to say but I'd like to know how many days of sailing I can excpect approximately?
Good on you for coming to Melbourne.
Put a call through to RPS in Elwood and see what they can help you with.
I don't think a car is too much of an issue. Once you get settled in Melbourne I'm sure you should be able to get in contact with some wave sailers and maybe a bribe of beers will assist in getting a lift to the wave spots. ![]()
If your after small waves and jumping ramps, the bay gets a decent swell on 20+ knot SE/SW days, just check previous posts.
