Hi!

Might head down from Sydney over easter for a couple of days and wonder if somebody could list the main spots in the Melbourne area or is there a link to a topic in which this has been discussed recently? Would be great to meet some victorian windsurfers there.

Thanks!

Where abouts are you staying? Do you have a car? What type of sailing are you wanting to do?

Will drive down by car with freeride, freestyle and wave boards. I'm up for anything depending on wind & weather. Shouldn't just be too far away from Melbourne.

Cheers

SOULRIDER,
A good start might be to take a look at
thewindmap.com/#-38.32792177372133,144.32842254638672,7

There's a few good spots listed there.
cheers,

Soulrider,
Hope you enjoy it !! There's some great Bay spots and I reckon you can't go past Inverloch...It's about 2 hours from Melbourne but worth the drive....
Might see you out there
cheers,
mick

Was looking indeed looking at inverloch and sandy point. If the conditions are right, will definately head down there. Do you know any nice places in that area to stay for the night?

Re. Inverloch - There's the Caravan Park, which is right next to (2 min. walk) the main launching/rigging spot. Looks nice but I have never stayed there. It's all very close, even the main town centre.

Inverloch is a sweet place to sail. Flat water in the inlet. Waves on the surf beach and other near locations like Venus Bay. Sandy Point speed strip is another 1/2 hr away. See other posts on Vic site - The Joys of Inverloch
It is probably a good 2 hrs plus drive from central Melbourne

Ive always gone one to Sandy Pt for a windsurf, does anyone have some pics of guys sailing at Inverloch?

How about current when the tide is going out - looks like it can be a couple of knots at mid tide. Is that a problem where you guys windsurf?

Yeh the running tide can be a problem if the wind is not up. Locals have said it can run up to 5 kts??
The only other issue is the sand plug in the middle of the inlet and some of the sand bars can be a problem on certain wind directions

Anyone else had a run in with the sandbar which has cut the main channel (on ej's video) in half during the last month or two?

Last sailed there labour day weekend and it wasn't quite deep enough to sail over the new sandbar at low tide. I tried.....ouch

Yes, I've had a few run ins recently with the sandbar. Nothing serious, but there's potential. I'm quite cautious now on anything from medium to low tide.
