Management Plan for Green Point

A new Green Point Precinct Landscape Conservation Management Plan has been adopted by Bayside Council.
It aims to improve the future amenity of Brighton???s Green Point precinct and conserve its historical cultural values.
Features of the Plan include projects such as improving garden beds and paths, providing picnic benches and seating, enhancing the heritage elements of the gardens, increasing landscaping and formalising the car park area and installing additional wayfinding and interpretation signage.

The Green Point precinct includes the Brighton Beach Gardens, a landmark war memorial and a foreshore car park.
The council???s 2014 capital works budget includes funding to implement Stage One of the car park construction works and funds are available within the open space budget to commence landscape works recommended in the Management Plan.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Or, in this case, a plan view drawing? Good to see our $14+ per day (!!!) parking fee is being ploughed back into improving the site!?

So have the final plans been done?

After they have taken care of investigating the Echidna population at Green Point (1?) before they tear into it..... It would be good to have the existing steps either left in situ, and or widened/moved to where we scramble down through the scrub/rocks, maybe a ramp. The grass area between where we park and the monument is great for rigging, just that access from there and onto the beach is a little difficult.

A ramp cut into the embankment meeting with existing beach path where we transit up and down would be good.

As to what plans they have for the layout and or reworking of existing grass, scrub, car parking, access etc will determine wether they botch it up from a windsurfers perspective. Beaumauis North is a prime example, they killed all the grass we use to rig up on that led onto the beach. Then planted scrub/weeds and thus now block the view from the capark to the bay for the elderly and such that wish to just pull up and take in the scene from the comfort of thier car. Oh and there is less car spaces as well.

I hate to sound negative, but Spotty is spot on. "Ricketts North" has become a foreshore wasteland since it was improved, and given the 'dont walk on the foreshore' type signs, we may even be in breach of bylaws for rigging up where we do now. In the near-decade i was sailing there beforehand i saw no change/damage as a result of windsurfing or other foreshore activities, yet now it looks disastrous with no clear gain to anyone, including the indigenous vegetation and wildlife. At least rigging on dirt there now reminds me of the Coronation Beach (Gero WA) rigging areas... just a shame it isnt Coronation Beach!
</whinge>
Anyway, be good to see plans for Green Point and get an idea if its worth inputting some thoughts so all users get benefit.

Looking at the draft plan http://www.bayside.vic.gov.au/GP_Precinct_Heritage_Assessment_and_Landscape_Guidelines_DRAFT_FOR_COMMENT.PDF it seems there is provision for a 'goat track' to the northern beach, but not southern. The only thing that may get in the way is the "Install low native shrub garden beds to the steep bank to the North and to the rock interface to the West." - may make rigging here problematic. Car park may be able to handle few cars too...

I think the $14 per day has only covered the outsourcing costs of the 59 page plan.

yeah Spotty and Andrew I am sure windsurfers rank highly on the councils list of people to impress! Rickets is a mess now. I wonder how much we paid to 'fix' it?

They can improve the car park all the want at Green point but it's still the worst place to windsurf in Melbourne! It's always gusty and ****ty wind & no waves!

Oops Im being sarcastic I think its one of the best places to sail in the bay on a northerly!

Like all spots when its North there is a window of opportunity when its best, it sounds like Ka222 hasn't had one of those at green point.

I suppose sarcasm dosnt work to well on forums

Well yeah the northerleys can be a challenge at times, but in a westerley a long time ago in the 90's it was MASSIVE, the shore break was nasty and it was snowing in the hills. I put my 4.2 on and launched a 100kg plus of flesh n rubber into an big end over forward opposite Milanos......... and landed it really flat.
It was SICK!!! ka222

People who work at the Council consider themselves untouchable by you common folk.
They aren't at all interested in what the regular user groups would like to see happen at such a beautiful site. That would mean getting off their arses and doing something which required some effort.
Why would you do that, when you can get paid the same for sitting on your lazy arse and quote by-law sh#t?
I'm a simple man, I know that, but they really Pi$$ me off,
Rant Over.

Someone with time should do a freedom of information request asking for daily car park takings for a year.... overlay it with Baywx.com.au... and then show how much money windsurfers give them.... then ask for a sentence in the document that the consultants put together that recognises this...

Also, I reckon it's possible to summarise the entire 90 page booklet with one side of A3 with a map and two pictures.... again for someone with time.

http://www.bayside.vic.gov.au/GP_Landscape_Conservation_Management_Plan_DRAFT_FOR_COMMENT.pdf

Plan to allow for car and trailer parking at Southern end of carpark, no planting along edge to block views to bay,
rigging area between car park and top of rock wall, now to negotiate steps to south and west.
attached plan draft I dont guess that the final plan for carpark layout has been signed off yet

Looks fine to me.

I guess the "car and trailer parking" is the bit in the centre of the Southern end loop.

That massive roundabout will mean less parking spots near the rigging area.... plus trailer parking will mean brighton mums clog up the remaining spots in their tractors...

Could we just ask for the money back on our taxes?
