As what Kato has said we have run a few clinics from Inverloch it seems to be the better spot. Other locations are Sandy Point which can cover flat water and waves sailing.

I can't recall WV ever organising or running an event at inverloch

They have sponsored a few which has been great.
Quite a few IWC members are WV members
There has been a very considerable increase in the number of events run by the Shops, different clubs and WV this year.

Sorry I had to respond. I thank the others for supporting WV and myself.

I thank George for the acknowledgement of my own contributions as a WV and IWC rep. I've been helping out IWC and others for longer than my position of WV president Jul10. I use to be on the IWC committee, but had to resign due to my extended commitments with WV. I still fully support IWC.

I'm also a member of ECW and I'm looking at becoming a member of Elwood Sailing Club to help support ESC more and also become a member of Parkdale Yacht Club for the WOD class; etc.


WV will continue to help support windsurfing clubs such as IWC. It's clubs like IWC that helps increase the profile of our great sport we are all part of. It was myself helping out at a IWC event early last year that got me thinking about doing more for our sport. Now as WV president I still see IWC as major part of our sport and this is why myself personal I help IWC via WV for marketing, helping with events and being an instructor for them.


I can only comment from when I become a member of IWC, but there are numbers WV members within the IWC as Doug has highlighted above. This includes a number on the IWC committee. Even myself being one of them when I was; see comments above. Plus most of the instructors at the Learn to Windsurf weekend were WV members.

I agree the efforts like yourself and other IWC members are putting in have been fantastic. I know I put in about 40 hours of volunteer time a week for WV.


Event based; we have had the Family Day and the Learn to Windsurf as part of the Break Water Beacon day. Plus other Learn to Windsurf days. Non event based; there is the Teach a Mate program and others. All of which are a great success. Not all lesson based events or activities is at Inverloch. You will see there is plenty happen that WV has been a part of and is organising.


Besides Third Party Insurance. Being a member of WV helps support your local windsurfing body, which in turn helps improve and increase the sports exposure and activities for all. This includes helping towards funding events like SHQ IWC Learn to Windsurf the other weekend and other events through out the season. Only memberships can help with all of this and more. I've only been in the WV president position for nearly 7 months now and the feedback has been very, very, very positive. Membership has grown by ~39% over last year and we have the largest membership ever for Victoria that I have on record. I also have been told based on WV more people have been getting in to the sport of windsurfing. IWC has also been credited towards this as well. A fantastic effort by all.

I'll be joining wv , just been sold, this is our sport passed down to us and we will pass it down after us , hopefully in even better shape than it is now. The Inverloch club is great and I love the crew but are still the new kids on the block. Much respect to all that has kept this sport going for 30 yrs.

Looks the insurance conditions changed mid 2009, which I must have missed too, thanks Ginger for clarifying this. I still think it's very well worth supporting WV and any other club to promote our great sport, which is the main thing IMHO.

Most of our weather is frontal ,so it usually is SW (Good) 15-20kts and sometimes (every 4yrs) 60kts Easterlies also common at that time of the year. Always a lucky dip in Vic but we still have fun

To add to Kato,
The Inlet is quite tidal...with different sandbanks coming into play as the water moves around.
DAM71, I took a look at my data from GPSTC, and this year over summer we have had very little wind from the SW, but a bit from the E-SE, normally around 10-18kts. The E-SE builds like a seabreeze although traditionally the seabreeze down there has more south in it. I don't want to curse it, but its pretty rare to not get ANY wind on the Inlet...

Having run a few things down there, two things to consider. They are not, by any means, problems that are too difficult to deal with:

1) The local ports and harbours enforce the No boating/ Swimming Zones and the main launch area requires an exemption from the no boating zone. This costs approx $300 to get a Notice to Mariners permit issued. They also may require a certificate of insurance and a risk management plan, depending on the type of event.
2) Over summer, the town population swarms to epic proportions. This means more swimmers, kiters, jetskiers on the water around the area where the clinic is held. There also is a problem with parking on weekends if the weather is good, as you have daytrippers, people staying at the caravan park, general public using the Angling Club, and random social kite events run by Kite Republic, all vying for the same carpark
