Putting out the call to anyone within the vicinity over the weekend (Portland, Vic) who's keen for some flatwater fun. There'll be a few of us @ our local breakwater over this weekend (1km long, runs E/W), gives us a good spot for flatwater on the leeward side & (mad in 30-35 predicted northerly) chop-hopping on the windward side...map attached below (I think!)
It's also a great spot along the north-side of the breakwater during a strong southerly...
Salespitch over. ![]()
map image...for scale, the breakwater (running east-west) is exactly 1km long.
The local beach during a Noreaster.
The harbour stays pretty flat, but gets plenty of wind through! This weekend should show similar conditions...
OB64,
It'd be pretty hard to beat Pt Henry during a weekend like this one coming! I will definitely get back there one day for another sail...missed every opportunity over the last couple of years, but studies came first! ![]()
Haven't yet decided whether to go for a few jumps in the chop, or rig up for some flatwater speed...50m between both rigging areas, can probably decide that tomorrow.
(Gotta get me a GPS!)
i think i might have to come over with me buddy for a sail some day over the other side of the bay. you guys have some great spots. when i past through portland last christmas. it was real windy but there were no windsurfers out.
funny thing is i thought it looked great for windsurfing. and now i have seen some pics of windsurfers there thats amazing man. i have never heard of any one windsurfing there. Thought i may of been the first if i did try windsurf the place
. i then drove on to point danger and that place rocks on as well![]()
live there every now and then ( no wind im there , wind im in wa )
Scotty did luke get any photos from last week?
I'd love to live at Portland, so many good waves and by the photos awesome windsurfing as well.
What's the work situation like down that way?
You may have to open a shop down that way scotty![]()
Heading out again today? Good photos by the way ( wendy?)
That looks awesome Sailhack. Couldn't make it this time due to being crook, but next time it looks to be on send out the call again and I'll be there.
Us Beachport crew should also make the effort seeing as we are under 2 hours away. My boys always go over and surf blacknose point with the other 100 people out whenever the swell is over 25 foot. and we played footy against you's on saturday,
flogged again.
Sounds great Scotty. That water is so flat. I'll let you know when I'm looking at Port Fairy. Just got myself some wave sailing kit.
just put a 50w out the back with a skirt and keep sailing out to the shelf sailhack!
sounds like they are still getting bluefin there with 2 just under 100kg caught on the weekend!
best fishing in vic!
Really!! And you live there! Wow I must have done 7 or 8 trips down there from melb this season!!!
such a cool spot
