I just read in the local paper that there has been an outbreak of blue/green algae at the lake so it looks like its sailing Pt Henry for a while now.

Well there is always heaps of weed in the lake anyway and stingrays arent really a problem anyway.

Not that it is an issue for me at the moment as I cant sail till I get a new boom. Breaking 2 within 2 weeks isnt much fun, especially this time of year when the bank balance is a little low.

I appreciate that but seeing as I am entering the 'Grand Master' class on GTC on Saturday, I will be up in Melbourne for a couple of days celebrating

Hey OceanBlue how did you manage to break 2 booms? Also i was reffering to the weed at point henry, because last time we went there it took us half an hour to walk out, then it still wasen't deep enough. We were probably to far towards the end of the point though.

We generally dont sail close to the point at Pt Henry. There is a track that turns off left as you start to come past Alcoa. Follow that to the end and thats where we sail. I call it the western carpark, others call it the southern. You still have to walk a little at low tide but its good to sail there.

As for breaking the booms - 1st one I was in the Barwon River and doing around 20 knots and hit a sandbank. Board stopped but I didnt and as I was hooked into harness, I put a nice kink in the boom as I flew off.

Second one I rigged a little large for the conditions at the Lake, was gusting 25 - 30 I suppose and I was still adjusting harness lines on the smaller sail and I hit a large bit of chop and the board stopped and again I flew off. Was doing about 25 knots this time and shattered the end of that boom.

I have just done a bit of work and swapped the head from one boom onto the other so hopefully I may get a sail in this afternoon.

I'll have to try and talk dad into taking me there before school starts again, but before the sailing (Boat)season starts up again so i can try windsurfing in some constant breeze. You must have had some good crashes to bend the boom.

Is the lake still closed? I was down at the end of ash rd a week ago and it was still closed. Ive put a 5.9sqm sail on my 1.2m long skateboard now and i sailed it across the street today, which was interesting, but its still not as good as windsurfing. Hopefully they re open the lake soon..
