I've driven past it many times going 'hmmmmm - I wonder what that would be like to blast on'?
Probably no help to you though.![]()
If the Pt Fairy Lach's anything to go by - then next time the wind's up - get out there!
Considered it once or twice. Is VERY muddy, and occassionally got the toxic algae going on.... I can't remember which council I spoke to, but call the tourist info place down there and they can tell you if its clean enough to sail on. Jetski dudes still go on it....
We went to lake Bullen Mari (spelling).... something like that, and its sea clean.... sandy in most parts.. has trout, and if the wind is up, doable and very scenic. Windsurfing in an extinct volcano!
Thanks for the info, I've some time off coming up and looking for a place where foreshore accomodation is available to do a bit of sailing.
Chilla.. im biased but consider the bellarine penisula (ocean grove/barwon heads) - awesome speed sailing, wave sailing , B & J and some awesome learning spots all within 10-15 min drives plus some great accomodation parks on the water..
Ideally I'd like to find a place where you can walk from the accomodation to the waters edge. Not really wanting to have to pack/unpack gear and drive from site to site. Lake or seaside cabins would be great, a lazy but active holiday, sailing interspersed with times on a verandah over looking the water :).
'Henty Bay C/P' (Dutton Way, Portland) - Works best on SW & W (our predominant winds) - walk down concrete boat ramp on to beach & you're away for some blasting or bump'n'jump - one of my fav local spots. ![]()
There's a spot called 'Sandune' that's tucked into the bushes on the SE end of the park (very sheltered) & has the beach directly in front of it. I've rigged up many times from the doorstep and wandered down the ramp for a great sail.
