Anyone have an idea on how much it costs to repair a pulley?

I think that's what it is, the metal thing you apply the downhaul rope to.......

Ideas on where to take it?

Has the pulley itself broken or has the webbing that holds it on broken????

Irwin Sails or Horizon can sew it back on, if you need a new pulley give me a shout.

Just the pulley. The webbing seems all fine. Happy to pay for a pulley and postage! Is it something I can just put on? Or need a sail maker to do it?

can't you just now buy the hook with 3-4 pulleys on it, about $20, and hook this onto the webbing loop?

Thats what you did when a sail only has a eyelet hole, and came with no pulleys

chinook do a hook/pulley combo. They are kind long, might not be good if your sail pulley to extension pulley is close.

+1 for Irwin Sails if you need a repair. About the only place i've been to that sews straight.

I exploded a pulley on my Gaastra sail last year, cut a pulley off an old trashed sail & took it to an upholsterer - $10 to unpick & re-sow the loop with the replacement pulley on.

To bring it back to original you need the webbing unstitched , then new pulley sewn back on. I can give you a pulley, no probs.
Best get a sailmaker to sew it back on, multiple layers of webbing and tack reinforcements so needs a super heavy duty machine.

give me a yell to arrange getting a pulley to you

Thanks Martin - email sent.

It's an old sail, and I bought it secondhand, so no expectations or issues with it other than the pulley, the sail itself is bomb proof.

Will get it to Horizon - thanks again.

K Dog,
We've had some success with South Eastern Sails down there in seaford. They did a great job on Kato's Koncept a while back...so they seem to know their way around a KA.

Kurt, you don't have to get a new pulley block, or use a sail maker to unstitch and re-stitch.
Check this pic out.

You drill out the rivet and replace it with a stainless steel nut and bolt. Just a few dollars from Melbourne Bolt Company in Braeside (Boundary Rd)

**If its the metal axle that runs through the pulley wheels that has broken, then that can be replaced easily too, with a male/female bolt. (also in my photo) I think SHQ have them in their spare parts drawer.

Both methods are a cheap and effective repair.
Hope this helps,
- PM me if you have q's

Then if something goes wrong in the future, you can easily disassemble it and fix it yourself.

Your not just a pretty face Bondy!!!!! Great thinking.

KDog, if you need it still grab the pulley off me, I can drill out the top rivet if you like so all you have to do is bolt it back on. Anchor Marine next to SHQ have a full range of SS Bolts.

More info:

The nut used in the upper position of Bondy'd photo is a special nut called Nyloc and it's probably made of stainless steel (to resist corrosion). They self-clamp to the bolt. Note: they are a one-use only!! Don't want them unscrewing off the bolt when you are 1 km off shore!

Can't see the nut used in the lower position, but suggest it should be stainless steel Nyloc, too.

Comments, Bondy?

You'll like this Lyle,
The male/female bolt used at the bottom is called a "sex bolt"

of course it is stainless steel too, and has a allen key on both ends.
It's the same bolt that they used to use on boom front end, that went right through the boom.
Hydrodynamics still sell them on ebay for a few bucks, but I think shq etc have them too.
