Hello everyone !!
I'm Olivier. I am a French windsurfing instructor who has just moved in Melbourne.
I will be here for 4 years. And I would be more than happy if you could give me some advice regarding windsurfing in Melbourne:
- the spots where I can ride
- the places where to find windsurfing shops
- existing windsurfing clubs that I could join
- places where I could repair boards
Thanks for helping me with my relocation!Looking forward to reading you ;)
Welcome mate!
There are three shops.
SHQ in Sandringham
Zu in st Kilda
Core in Geelong.
All great guys. All carry different brands.
Board repair is done by Oke. 1-7 Canterbury Rd
Melbourne VIC 3195
Spots.
South westerly is most common wind. Easiest spot is the bay from Brighton to st Kilda. It's bump and jump.
Northerly.
Most people go to green point Brighton.
Easterly.
Ricketts point
Clubs.
Invaloch is the best. But it's a big drive. There are not any clubs in Melbourne
. We all use seabreeze. If you want to hook up for a sail drop me a message
Elwood Sailing Club has lockers for windsurfing equipment.
I did a double take there. My first glance I saw "Elwood Sailing Club has hookers......."
I have my glasses on now.
Where are you living in Melbourne (assuming you've made a decision)? That'll determine where the best place to sail is and who you can meet up with.
Thank you for your answers !
I hope to see you on spots !
I am close to Albert park.
But I did not windsurf yet since I have to buy a new board here.
I was used to windsurf with my board wave 75L in France. Which volume is better here ?
About the weather forecast, is it better in summertime or wintertime ?
Are there any waves on spots ?
I will be more than happy to meet you for a drink even if my oral English is not really good yet.

Hi Olivier.
The best board for the bay (if you have only one) is a FSW 15-20 litres more than your weight.
I'm 75kg. I use my 100l more than my 85. If I had one board I would buy the tabou 94l 3s.
The most commonly used sail size is 5.5m for my weight.
Summer is the best wind. Winter gets strong winds but they come with cold fronts and rain.
Spring and Autumn have lighter winds.
Do you have any equipment here?
