Hi guys,
Been following the forums for a few months now, bought a retro klepper a while back and have taken it out a few times at Bonbeach - love it!. Understand there are pleanty of easier boards to learn on out there but they all seem to come at cost & u throw them out after a few months.
This set up on gumtree looks like it may be a good progression board for a decent price.. I am 64 kgs so 115 l im guessing should suppot me ok for uphauls.
Also interested in getting a mate into the sport he is heaver than me 80kgs, how do you think this board would suit him (he is already better on my klepper than me :) )
Ps hi to the guy thats selling if he is on these forums... http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/ascot-vale/surfing/complete-windsurf-package-for-sale/1004037751
Looks like a bargain...will be a bit tippy for your mate, but if he's a quick learner, he'll be right. If all else fails - tell him to buy his own kit!![]()
Btw, welcome to the madhouse ginno!![]()
G'day ginno...
As a (one seaon) beginner, I was in the same position as you. Didn't want to lash out thousands just to outgrow the board.
I'm very lucky in that I have a Minister of Finance who loves to buy me things, so aftere a trip to a retail outlet I had a new JP Funride 160L, 5.5 sail, boom, mast etc. The reason I bought that kit, was that the whole rig (everything above the board) can be re-used - in fact my sons now use the sail and mast, and I still use the same boom I first bought.
In regard to weight and volume - I know it sounds tempting to get a nice flash skinny speed board, but trust me that could frustrate you. My 160L at 80cm wide was great at giving me the stability I needed at the time - and I'm 80-85kg. Even more important was the club members I sail with are always giving instruction and pointers (even if it is just to get my sons to sail faster than me lol!).
In all seriousness I progressed to the point of hooking in, getting planing and just about getting both feet into the straps on that funride in basically one summer season - in both bay chop and local flat water.
And the best part is, you just don't throw away that kit - if you are after a great board - my JP Funride 160L is in excellent condition, comes with a board bag and on consignment sale at SHQ !!
(Sorry had to put the plug in for the board !)
Best of luck, stick with it - it's an amazing sport.
