A big fish payed me a visit out the back of GP today, down towards Hampton. I had just muffed a gybe and doing a sort of half water start. Stood up on the board , looked down and saw a big grey thing right under me. I thought, cool, a dolphin then it turned in front of me and I went, that's no dolphin, the fin thing on the back is definitely the wrong shape. Pump, pump I am out of here.

Be interesting to know what species it was, you would hope that with the freezing water in the bay at the moment it would almost be hibernating.
Maybe you woke it up!

Don't worry. With snapper season approaching, it will either be fed real good, or a real good feed.

Not to mention you still kept sailing. Not easy after such encounters. I was temped to call it quits. Suddenly switched to nice short runs (that's sailing runs).

Scott, hard to tell but reckon it was 2 to 2.5 metres. Not a monster.

Mikey, maybe it was a snapper, you know that monster one that got away!!!

Darren hit a submerged object at Bonbeach last Sunday (18th August).

He nearly broke his arm, but there was no fin damage. We reckoned it was something organic - ie softer than a G10 fin but heavy enough to stop him dead.

I saw the whole thing... was too violent to be funny

On Saturday night I was fishing of Baeumoris pier. At around 10pm 2 sharks started lurking. One of the fishermam managed to hook the smaller (6ft) shark but the hook hadn't set well and he lost the fish after a minute or so.

Both were thresher sharks.

2 fishermen had kit ready to catch sharks and over the last week have been having 'fun' landing sharks off the pier.
