A mates really rough with his gear and is in need of a bullet proof wave sail. Doesn,t have to be super fast or light. Not my area of expertise so no Koncepts for him. I did have an old KA GSX that survived being blown into the local pier, but it long gone now..... so whats a great solid sail.
Anything with full x ply sounds like the go.
Lots to choose from these days Kato.
what size is he after?
My old KA KULT 6.4 that I bought s/hand a few years ago (from a pit crew speed sailor) has been put through the ringer & is still hanging in there. 110kgs swinging off it, various shore-break mishaps, catapults & basically crashes from having 'ambition that outweighs ability'. The luff sleeve is ripped (had to do a broken mast extraction about 500m offshore a while back), the mid panel has a few dents in it from various catapults (harness hook), but not one tear in the sail & still going strong!
Kato,
I have a 6.0 Tushingham storm he can have for $100.
It's a bomb proof sail with full x ply.
Only ever been sailed on Sundays by an old lady to church.
It's in great condition and would do a beginner well.
Let me know and I'll take it down to Invy on Sunday.
I reckon you can't go past a Kaos, around the 4.5 mark. These things are so tuff, they decide who rides them!
Loft Lips from personal experience are super tough. I've been riding them for 6 seasons and I've never needed to repair one of them. They've been through many rinse cycles, washed over reefs etc... 100% X-Ply with a kevlar bottom panel.
So lots and lots of X-ply is good and it should survive most of the crap thrown at it.......and no mono film. I see if he survives past this weekend and have a look around next week ![]()

A Kaos 4.5, I thought someone in IWC used one for ages - cannot remember who it was - Can anyone help me out with a name that we could pass onto Kato
Gaastra Manic HD's and Ezzy Icons are definately very tough with a full cross ply
heavy duty construction. They are both available to demo and in stock at SHQ ![]()
Nazsail, There is actually no 4.5 Kaos, the sizes are 4.2 then 4.7. I used my 2012 4.7 for the first time Thursday at Ricketts and had a ball.
There is also the new Killer if you want a grunty, power wave sail, same sizes. With Killer you can almost go a size smaller as it has big amounts of bottom end power. Great for those sailors like me who challenge the bathroom scales and don't like pumping ![]()
Both full Xply construction.
I guess there were a few small wave sails getting used late yesterday, it cranked.
