What's the best sub 80 litre bay jumping board?
I don't care about wave riding or turning. This is just about top speed (and comfort at speed so nothing slalomy) in chop and mess, plus a certain amount of comfort in the air.
Is vee the secret? I've found a couple of boards that I've tried quite slappy in chop and someone said that vee makes boards less slappy.
My RRD Freestyle Wave rocks, why, lots of V to smooth the ride and thick squishy pads. Perfect bay bump and jump board in my opinion.
Loved my 76L JP FWS for serious rocket airs, lots of speed into the ramps. The old knees can't take the abuse anymore though
Yep, get a board with V under the mast track, it really smoothes the ride out, some concave will have the same effect.
The story about V reducing planing efficiency on sailboards is a bit of an old wives tale, as on sailboards the amount of V we are talking about is so small. Sure when you talk large amounts of V like on powerboats it reduces lift significantly but on sailboards the amount of V is really small. I did alot of research before designing my speed and slalom boards and spoke to quite a few people who know some sh.t, guy,s like Chris Lockwood and an American guy who designs the World Champion 25 HP power boats. In power boats they don't consider a hull has V until it has at least 10 deg a side, sailboards have 2 deg max overall, 1 deg per side, and most have half that much..
The lift vector only moves 1 deg from vertical assuming you sail your board dead flat so the reduction in lift is so small I doubt it could be measured.
What does have a negative impact on planing is varying angle V, some call it spiraling V, as it effectively changes the rocker line at different widths away from centreline. I always use constant V in the back half of my fast boards for this reason.

If you want a board that will be smooth in the bay chop which allows you to sail fast, comfortably, then get something that has noticable V , concave, or both from behind the mast track to the front of the board.
