Have never tried wave sailing (except bay chop). Surfed all my life so it makes sense to combine my 2 passions. Which ocean beach near Melb is the easiest place to have your first go at it, (obviously with a small swell)? Torquay and 13th Beach have caught my interest as I spend a bit of time in that area when camping but happy to travel to the East coast too.
Haven't got a wave board but do have FSW boards and wave sails.
sandy point is good. the wave is usually pretty soft and that area gets more wind than the torquay region. 13th, pt danger and possos all can be good but the wind can be really up and down.
your fsw board should be fine initially for small stuff. once you start getting in bigger waves you definitely need a real wave board.
if there is wind on sunday sandy point will be on. would be a good intro into it.
+1 Sandy Pt. If everything goes pear shaped you can bail and your gear will just wash up on the beach.
The waves are mostly close outs so it's more sailing with waves rather than wave sailing. It's still a good spot to get your skills up.
the WV guys did an awesome job last year. It was a well organised event and they did a great job calling the wind. Even on a day at sandy when wind did not come in we had a great social day and surfing and SUP. They are meeting over the next week to confirm this and i am sure they will put posts on seabreeze, but the http://www.vicwavesailing.org website was always up to date during the event period.
I know as soon s the dates come out i will lock in every event as priority 1.
well done WV wavesailing guys
what about even a session on wavesailing etiquette and techniques for newbies so they/we don't feel a bit overwhelmed.
Also a session on moves from some of the lead riders would be great. This may tie into expression session and some live feedback to help all riders... just a thought
yeah thats a good idea. im planning on running some video clinics for the amateur division, get everything on film so its much easier to work on feedback.
even getting license rights from jem hall. his wavesailor to winner sums it up really nice :) even technique stuff would be great.. and have commenst from experienced local wave sailors or past winners (dobbed you in Evan)
