From the AWA website:
Slalom Nationals
Please be aware that the Nov 2008 Slalom National Championship is now very likely to be relocated to Ramsgate Beach, Sydney, 8-9 Nov 2008.
This is strictly subject to approval of Aquatic and Council licenses. Failing timely approval the event will be cancelled.
Unfortunately the Sandy Point venue has become untenable for a number of reasons, and whilst we have fought to keep the event/venue happening, the general consensus this week is better to relocate than have a bad event.
Please await a further announcement over the next couple of days.
Regards
Brett Morris
AWA President
Must be some serious issues to move it from the PIT!! Why move it away from Victoria, surely there would be other suitable locations?
It's a shame this has happened...
Brett, I would be interested to learn about the reasons... what would make it a bad event?
I was keen (as well as some friends) to drive down and watch the best sailors battle it out.
Thanks
Rick
Yeah, I'd be keen to hear about the reasons as well. Very disappointed - I was looking forward to getting involved.
Makes it a bit hard to have a national slalom comp in Vic when we don,t have a Vic series at all.At the moment speed sailing is king with very little interest in slalom. Bit sad as i enjoyed the comps but hated the wasted weekends waiting for wind, which is why gps speedsailing works.Sail when you want, when there,s wind.It also makes it hard when WV is unwilling to run events due to ligitation exposure![]()
Not knowing the full story but if WV is worried about litigation exposure shouldn't AWA and wherever they are going to hold the slalom nationals?
