I sent an email to Ian Fox via the website yesterday that the membership form is 2009-2010 and has not been updated. I asked about membership renewal for this year.

No Reply.

Anyone know whats going on? Should I just use last years form?

Not to go too far off topic - but I have an idea I think would be a great way to promote windsurfing in Melbourne - how about a bunch of dudes windsurfing in the Yarra near Crown / Aquarium during lunch time with some promo flyers etc? Big boards so you don't have to get wet.......and sick....

It maybe the lack of sleep and coffee talking, but was thinking of this last summer... and how goodah exposure it would be for the sport....

Perhaps Docklands is better. More space and wind. Backdrop just as good.

I'm thinking we need more events for all types and calibers of sailers to get in on. There is just not enough stuff on to keep up the interest through the year.

There should be races and comps on every second weekend in summer, and perhaps once a month through winter.

club vs. club and team events etc...

Also some publicity events like K-Dog suggested, ramps, jumps, kids getting in on it, the whole lot. There needs to be more free open events an come and try days like the IWC had down inverloch.

I also think that we should lobby parks vic to make Albert park lake open to windsurfers, especially for special events.

Keep all the ideas coming, its great to see the same enthusiasm I have about promoting windsurfing. The aim is to Increase the Interest in Windsurfing. WV are discussing varies different ideas with the stores and other clubs to help promote our great sport. This includes events, social gatherings, etc. More news to follow about these in the real near future. Please keep an eye out for messages from WV including the WV website.

The answer to all the questions is "hot girls".

I am serious. Here is my take on this.

We need more hot girls windsurfing. We need to sex up windsurfing. If we make it sexy then we get more girls interested. The more girls interested, more young hot blooded males are interested, so they can impress the girls. Spend more moneu on gear etc... Its a domino effect! And the key is young hot girls.

So as long as we can figure out how we can make hot girls more interested in windsurfing, I think we can probably also solve world peace also.

So how do we do this you may ask.

Free windsufing lessons for women, Free equiptment hire, extra special discount on gear for women.

Build it and they will come...

I can't understand why the "hot girls " aren't flocking to the sport now. After all look at all the middle aged men in Lycra and neoprene to attract them, why isn't there a stampede??

Yes, we are sexy arn't we.

Perhaps we need to get involved with Bayside schools more, and run windsurfing sport days to get the younger kids interested?

Invite Tatiana Howard and Friends of the Butterfly Effect to tour Melbourne,

If you got Tatiana giving free Windsurfing Lessons or doing a Butterfly Effect event at St Kilda it would be sure to draw a crowd!

I'll let the pictures do the talking...

being a Geelong boy how about windsurfing having some type of presence at Scandia week yacht races. Lots of events on foreshore and I sure if some events or demonstrations were planned you would have quite a large audience....

Here's a thought... rather than complain about the lack of events, how about YOU organise them. Seriously. Dont forget to make sure to put your house up as collateral for the insurance.

Regular events on the Vic windsurfing calendar:

- Sandy Point Melbourne Cup (big 4 days, SHQ sponsor)
- Breakwater to Beacon (SHQ sponsor)
- Vic Wavesailing series (6 days)
- SpeedFortnight (15 days, manufacturer and shop sponsors)
- RPS 1hr (RPS sponor)

The Inverloch windsurfing club has put on numerous events (shop sponsors), as well as the regular invites for weekend sailing.

I count more than 20 days of event-based activities, organised by volunteers and supported by the local shops.

Hey Red

I always think that our western brothers miss out that is why Inverloch jump at the opportunity to get together. Your idea about the Scandia week yacht races has some merit. Who organises it? When is it on? Drag races between dry bum sailors and us boys may be fun.

I reckon Docklands with big boards would be interesting. Best thing about docklands is the companies that are setup around that bit of water. I did corporate dragon boating there a while back - wind would be pretty tricky to negotiate with all those structures around. You could have NAB and 7 as sponsors - even get coverage on Sunrise or something like that... Probably summer only as with all the gusts and shifty winds it would be tricky sailing. As a city bound worker I'd happily have a 2 hour lunch break and do some cruising up the Yarra / whatever. Something different thats for sure...

Ref: The Audi Victoria Week (what was Skandia Week). They have stuff at the Docklands and in Geelong. The event is run by Rhumbline marketing www.rhumblinemarketing.com.au.

I was in Geelong last night discussing the 2011 and 2012 events and have several key contacts with this event. PM me if you need them.

Hi Stephen, I hope the wrist is healing up well.

A question/suggestion on WV membership - I'd be keen to see a system as with other memberships (eg ambulance victoria) whereby it can renew automatically on an annual basis via a credit card debit.

If that isn't possible, can I just transfer the $ by internet banking? Do I need to fill out another form? I don't even have a cheque book anymore as they are so last century.

Cheers,
Peter

Could we do a windsurf to work day?

You'd need a decent 20-25 WSW that started early in summer. Everyone drives to Green point and rigs up... Sail to Port Melbourne, put your rig and board in a truck, have a huge breakfast and get a tram to work in the CBD.

Launch at 6am, arrive at 8am, at desk for 9am with a big grin

Then an evening beers session at Milanos where you can take your kit out of the truck and go home.

Peter,

The wrist is now out of the brace and has 3 more weeks of strength building before I can sail. I went down to Bono today to catch up with some of the crew and I made it down to Rye last Saturday too. I should be back out sailing about 7th Aug. Hope you got sail today, before the rain came in.

With regards to the membership. The Windsurfing Victoria forms need to be filled out for sailor registration and for insurance purposes. The forms also has the Windsurfing Victoria banks details for online banking (i.e. EFT).
http://wv.org.au/images/stories/WV_Mship_form_10_11.doc

One of our first upgrades to the Windsurfing Victoria website is to include PayPal for membership and other type of payments (e.g. movie nights).
