Hi all
First post here so try not to be to harsh.

OK sometimes I drive to elwood for a sail in a strong S/E summer breeze and
its like a washing machine' you can sail it but not a lot of fun for some of us.

Anyway I was walking around Albert park lake and was wondering if anyone
windsurfs this place as next to the yacht club looks
like a good fast spot with enough length for some good runs.
Is it deep enough?.
Are we allowed to?.
Look forward to any feedback (I think)

Welcome Balsa

I have not sailed there and have not see other windsurfers there. Seen sabots and butterflies and other small dinghies on it though(sometime ago). I would guess that the depth maybe an issue and weed.
Nothing ventured nothing gained. Worst case, you would bottom out a couple of times or have some angry official yelling at you and you just claim ignorance.

i haven't sailed there and would not recommend it. i have seen huge eels in the lake as thick as a forearm and it is very polluted - full of broken glass.

what kind of sailing level are you at? sandringham is a much flatter than elwood during a seabreeze so that could be worth looking at.

Yeah albert park lake is a terrible place to sail, ive done regattas in sabots to lasers there, and it is never fun...

MASSIVE FUNNEL GUSTS come through near the point, and then no wind to the other side of the island.

Unless you like sail in SUPER flukey conditions, stick to the bay.

Yes, loan sharks from Fitzroy and Grey Streets who charged too much interest.

I wouldnt sail there, as said the bottom is full of broken glass and other things you wouldnt want to step on. It's also pretty shallow.

I once had a running race around the Lake, got half way to the thin bit and swam across. Beat the rest of the field by 10 minutes ......Felt pretty skanky after though. Probably wouldn't do it again.

I am right in remembering there used to be windsurf racing there during the Grand Prix in the late 90's? Anyone could enter, and you got a free GP ticket?

Or am I delusional?

lucky a shark never got ya, yes there was windsurfing there in the 90s, but the council stopped it said its to dangerous, someone might fall over and get hurt.and parks victoria said we will spook the birds around the lake to much or maybe they were talking about the blondes walking around the lake.

Did a couple of those Grand prix things. The place is as gusty as all s..t. Ok for sailing a long board , can be fun but forget a short board or even Formula.

It's so dirty you'd change your mind about windsurfing once you fell in.
Whats all this nonsense about a shark in there?
Carp and eels thats about all.
