G'day all,
As some of you know Megs and I will be going on a 2 month windsurfing trip up and down the east coast.
As there's some windsurfing shops around, I would like to know what you think we should take as spares?
We don't want to pack heaps, but what would be the essential spares?
Must have:
- Sticky-back sail cloth + scissors
- two-part epoxy, aka liquid variety (dont use the aqua putty stuff.. it leaks)
- some spare o-rings for the board vent
- downhaul rope
- electrical & gaff tape
- sandpaper of various grits, 80 - 600
Also helpful:
- 1x formula board
- 2x slalom board
- 1x speed board
- 2x wave board
- 10x sails
- 2x wetsuits
... and some sunscreen... ![]()
Sometimes it's the most simple things that will ruin your day. Make sure that you have spare fin bolts in your kit. It is easier to match your existing fin bolts at a bolt shop now than trying to guess which length the bolt was when you lost it in the sand.
Cheers, Moondo
make sure too, that you take at least three of your buddies from the Windsurfing Club. It's only fair......
Hey George, if the current no wind trend continues only Mr smurf will be planing, especially with a bagged out sail like that!
I'm sure that wont be the case however. Have a great trip! ![]()
Dont forget to take some wind
I did a similar trip in 2008 and the wind didn't blow for a month!
I did however remember to take a surfboard, and had a great time. Nothing quite like surfing with dolphins at Byron Bay ![]()
oh yeah,
If you are anywhere around Nambucca Heads a fella called Richard runs the local surf store. He and his brother Lloyd (I think) are damn good local sailors. No doubt they will help you out with locations and other gear queries.
If in Nambucca make sure you grafitti your name onto the "Vee" rock wall (local and legal tradition) and pick up the remanents of my 4.7 left on the rocks![]()
Lots of gauges of rope, replacement universal, several spare stainless screws, harness lines, all the cheaper stuff that can ruin a Sail if get breakage. Once missed epic session on a $2 piece of rope. Never again.
Maybe boom grip and quick grip too.
Poker cards, normal kite, landboard
Don't forget a spare harness, or the very least, those cheap plastic clips that hold the straps together. Like moondo says, its the cheap / simple stuff that can ruin your day if they break.
Have a great time.
