Every one who bumps and jumps/ wave sails lets you know on the forum where the action is .
Do the speed guys/gps do the same anymore.???
Just wondering as it would make it easier for newcomers to get involved, which is what we all want to see. Plenty of guys up north sailed today, some encouragement would have been great.

This is a hard one Geardforknots .To many cooks spoils the broth, I know that
in surfing ,or supping ,I don't ring every man and his dog ,cause aint enough waves to go round , once,I've had my fifty or so, the interwebby thing has made surfing crowds really bad, to easy to pick weather ect, Those people with the gear to do their preffered niche, normally are in the know about what is happening or where best conditions are. Wavesailing,slalom ,speed,freestyle, most windsurfing is done in large open areas, bar certain fast stuff. So all in all I understand the Shhhhhhh.
Had a 36 Nm turn into a 34 cause of someone not knowing the unwritten laws, oh well Not to fussed though had heaps of Fun.
As I said this is a tough one with no answers, as long as I'm on to it ,or my good mates are, ????????? And let me know ,happy days, works most of the time or hell to pay!!!!

Yeah good if you are in the know about Port Sorell Izaak,

Many dont know where to go when it is on, some are lucky and get inside info from there mates,
some have no mates or dont know if north/ west or east is good at a certain location, let alone tide etc.
Along with great fun with other guys on the water

If it was not for regular posting this forum would be dead

perhaps seabreeze forum has had its day with gps/ speed sailors?.
Encourage new guys into your selected dicipline , waves, speed or learning

Damo, the speed sailors at Stanley are alive and well. The problem has been the lack of wind.

This is not unusual for this time of year. The frustrating part is there has been wind forecast that has not eventuated.

There has been plenty of wind (and swell) on the West coast, and at Low Head but in between very little.

I have had plenty of trips to Stanley the last few months on a good forecast (or wishful thinking) only to get skunked.
When this happens a number of times i am reluctant to post when going for a sail.

The good news is the wind guru Bazf advised me we are heading towards the windy time of year.
At Stanley, if there is a low tide during the day and wind from any direction there is a good chance at least one of us will be out sailing.

On a side note the Tassie Speed Seekers are going really well so far this year, so the more sailors that come and sail at Stanley (or anywhere else) the better.

Lagoon can be Ok and it can be CRaaaaaaazy. Usually around low tide in a WNW no swell makes it through the mouth of the river so It can be very flat and there is no current except right in the middle. There are a lot of days when it is sailable at low tide (Knee to waist deep and some days when low tide is ankle deep and you have to wait an hour. The incoming tide can be very smooth right across the river for two to three hour then the swell will make it in and thinks get a little or a lot lumpier. The last couple of hours of the outgoing tide can be pretty flat too except right in the middle where there is the tide running against the wind. If its straight westerly this means quite long runs without getting out into the current. There are often a few or a lot of other sailors to share the stoke. If it gets to northerly then inside Lagoon can be quite gusty and on days like last weekend its probably even windier at Lagoon than Port Sorell. Other spot that are flat .......

Stanley ......in a westerly the nearest channel is quite gusty but it is only a ten minute walk to the other channels and that water is unbelievably flat.....good in an easterly on the close channel.......I am not sure if the locals insist that you have to carry a GPS ( I just duct taped an empty plastic bag to my arm to make it look like I am speed sailing)

Wynyard looks OK in a NW too..

You wouldn't happened to have been out sat arvo? In river, red sail? If so, when the tide is half, to fully covered the sand bar. Best bet, is to launch from the end of Anderson street, or end of shearwater esplanade. That way, it'll be out of the current and chop won't be too bad. The middle of river, it can get confused with the wind and current flow Feel free to send me a message, if you're ever unsure

Yup, that was me, fighting with the current the tide was a bit too low to launch from the esplanade
