Just for your general interest, some early photos of the construction of the Lauderdale canal circa 1919. These photos were from the original foremans family ( guy with hands in pocket).
Apparantly never been released to the public.
All the houses down North and South terrace were built on mud flats, with the canal sand thrown on top. And check out how much further the dunes went out!
Its a shame the canal is now just a festering algae pit.

The photo looking back into dorans where we sail from looks unchanged.

Just think Lauderdale with no trees offshore west winds would have been huge
