OK i am getting excited about a trip to the mouth of port Davey for some wave sailing. there are a couple of south and southwest facing beaches at the mouth.

swell is pretty much taken for granted down there, but as it has never ben sailed to my limited knowledge, i cant vouch for the break...

will be an epic trip

who is in?

as supporting document for this ridiculous idea, see wind statistics for maatsuyker island, (about 40 km away)

reg.bom.gov.au/clim_data/cdio/tables/pdf/windrose/IDCJCM0021.094041.3pmJan.pdf

these stats put 33% of days with wind over 21 kn from NW and or W (cross off, cross for the two beaches in question...

and another 10% between 15-21kn...

this sounds pretty good to me...

Do you think Parks and Wildlife will mind a tractor loaded down with windsurfing gear being driven down the bush walking track?

Al you're a tossa, it's a great idea, no need to spoil it for the die hards and tell the bloody parks & wildlife.
Nick has many tractors to choose from, I'm sure he can find one that will do minimal damage.
He is always full of bright ideas and been trying to figure out whether he can drive down a mob of sheep so we all get fresh meet and free sex every night.....well that is Nick is prepared to share the sheep

I'm in for a bit of radical adventure, I was wondering how on earth you get windsurfing gear into Port Davey. How about towing them on the back of Mt bikes

we as i see it there are two options (but i am half blind...)
there are a couple of beaches to the south of bathurst habour, facing south and south west... getting there will be either fly in with gear (may need to chatter chonook, or maybe an army air drop of windsurfing gear) then get the boat up the habour and hock across 400 meters of land and walk up 2 km of lagoon and you are there....

the other option is cox's bight, (better this way than the other way around, but pays not to talk about windsurfing trips with girls... especially with your pants down)

this is a flight/boat with gear to mellaluca and a 7 km walk to the beach, the track is gravel, flat and very good going...

both access the prevailing wind at a cross off, and both will catch more swell than you can poke a wave turbine at... dont think about coming if you don't think you can handle 3/4 mast high waves or houstons humour...

I talked to a surfer who did the trip down there with the Surfrider Foundation to do a beach clean up. The waves sounded amazing, they spent part of each day surfing in a different location in the area. They also cleaned up lots of trash.

As far as I know the photos from that trip are not up on the net, this video of a trip to Petra Branca is pretty amazing though.

there is a couple of problems with going to petra branca,
there no land down there so you never get cross off conditions! (chop...)
and its way crowed with surfers i hear...
