The Summer Slalom Series will be held on one Saturday of the month from November to March. Races starting at 3pm at Boggy Lake (http://www.boggylake.org).

Dates are:
17 Nov
15 Dec
12 Jan
16 Feb
16 Mar (Presentation and BBQ)

There will be 2 concurrent events:
1. Number of laps around 2 buoys that can be made between 3pm and 4pm. The person completing the most circuits by the end of the summer series will be the winner. Best 4 results are counted for the series as one race can be dropped.

2. For those with a GPS the winner will be the person who records the fastest 2 second peak between 3pm and 4pm while rounding the buoys. Only peaks obtained on the race course during the race will be counted.

The winner of each event series (best 4 out of 5) will take home a Black Project Fin courtesy of the Strath Windsurfing Shop!

There are no rules about equipment - whatever gets you around the course and you can even swap during the race. There are also no rules about the weather - whatever Mother Nature provides on the day.

Beginners and juniors welcome! Boggy Lake is a safe place to sail with shallow water and a good chance of a breeze.

Entry is free - all entrants will get a Hot Sail Maui South Australia T-shirt at the sausage sizzle and presentation after the last race of the series in March 16th 2013. But, all entrants will need to be members of Windsurfing SA for insurance purposes ($30 - you can join for the year at wsa.roundtablelive.org, Juniors $5).

Be keen if it wasn't at boggy! Seriously hope its fun and look out for star droppers! That's a no from me Dave.

All submerged fence post at the launch area at boggy have been removed all extended fence lines along the shore at boggy have been marked with buoys There are not fence post or fixed obstacle's to hit through the centre of Boggy lake. Boggy lake is probably the safest place to windsurf around Adelaide if you have any equipment failures you can literally walk back as it is shallow enough to stand almost everywhere in the lake. It also seems to catch the seabreeze's in summer most afternoons thus the 3pm start time for the races.

Dave, dont think my wave boards would perform too well in a slalom race and other than that 20mins drive to semaphore or over an hour to boggy. Easy decision, Semaphore wins

I gather its a figure 8 race ?
how far between buoys is it going to be long drag race a kay apart or is it going to be a few hundred metres close to shore.
and is it going to be consistent and the same every time.

Yes a figure eight.....unless you want to tack round one bouy.

The first bouy is about 20 meters off the lauch area making it close so it is easier for the counter on the shore to count the roundings. It is the first bouy in the row of 3 currently at the launch area.

The second bouy for a SW wind direction will be about 20 meters from reed island which I believe is about a nautical mile sailing in a SE direction and returning another nautical mile in a NW direction. If the wind is blowing a different direction the bouy will be moved but will be a similar distance.

I am hoping once the bouy is set it will remain in the same place for 5 months assuming each race takes place in a SSW seabreeze otherwise I will have to either sail or paddle across the lake to move the bouy to enable the bouys to be rounded without requiring addition transitions.

I'll give it a go, for something to do ! Seeing summer is so crap for wavesailing, but if the waves do come up I'm out

An hour sounds a bit too long - (you'll all be wrecked!) - we sort of learnt that with the Wave Sail Comp - but maybe that's different?

Are you going to set up a ramp or something to attract the free-stylers?

An hour for GPS sailors is not that long most go out each session trying to get a good hour average speed.

Freestylers do not need a ramp they seem to be able to get all twisted bouncing off flat water.

Have it on the same day as the demo day, will make the racing more interesting. A Slalom obstacle race.

Bummer was coming up on the 17th for both as the same day seemed a great idea,
now probably won't bother traveling for 2 weekends in a row.

if you can gybe your half way there.

i placed in a few races years ago and i was on my old carbon strapper and severne freeride sail. (it all came down to making the mark rounding's clean)

Great day at boggy yesterday if we get conditions like that for the Race Saturday week we should have a good race. Looks like there will be a seabreeze there this afternoon...hope to get another good session.

Might get out on the big kit:-). Bit early to say....

Put the buoy on the other side of the lake for the outer rounding mark for the race on Saturday. It was fun trying to sail across boggy with a block of concrete sitting on your board and dragging a buoy behind you. However was good when I got it in place wanted to test that the run was possible. It feels that the wind is slightly deflected as you get near the reeds so you aim well above the buoy to make it round. It was fun gybing round something think it improved my gybes mind you most were crap!
