1st time today on new model Hot Sails Maui GPS. 1st thing i noticed was the retro pink colour - at the start but has grown on me and definately wont be missed on the water. The other most noticeable thing was the weight of the sail. The 7.3 is as light or even lighter than the 2012 6.0m. On the water it felt very light in the hands and alot easier on the gybes.

The power is incredible as was the 2012 but the added 4th cam makes it more stable across the wind and found it pulled like a train downwind. It has extra length in the bottom batten and the 4th cam has stiffened up the bottom of the sail and also seems to sit slghtly higher so sail sits balanced on top of board. Cam rotation is excellent. Can't wait to spend more time on this sail and try the 5.5....

Hi Carl, what mast does it rig on.
The curve looks a lot curvier than other comparable branded sails or do the photos exaggerate this? lots of down haul?
Whats the main differences in comparison to the Koncepts.
thx Dale

Agreed, I'd also be interested to know how hard they are to downhaul. I have a 2012 GPS 8.0 and I can downhaul it by hand. Not that excited about getting a sail that needs a downhaul crank.

I will be rigging up my GPS13 8m today and will not be using a a downhaul crank. I find it easier not to use them.

No Barbie doll Choco.

Dale,

Rigged on Hotsails Maui Hot Rod 460 97%. Great thing with these sails is alot of draught (belly) for low wind performance and can be tuned for strong winds - they seem to have a huge wind range.

Phil,

Rigged on recommended downhaul setting and i didn't have my crank with me and pulled down with normal downhaul tool - easily.

The 2013 production models will be orange/blue.

As for downhauling, I can downhaul my whole quiver if needed without sitting down (work clothes - wet floor), but do use both hands. They downhaul and rig very easily. All are supplied with 2 sets of cams, and I can confirm they rig and rotate on both north and tushingham SDM masts, havent tried others.

Redsurfbus.......the one's Carl has and I have are production and they are Pink....my understanding is that HSM origanally planned to have orange and blue but that has now changed to the pink and Yellow and all production GPS13's producteced so far are pink. This has only just been decided.

To me a strange marketing decision going with only pink, I think it will really affect their sales as I know it would definetly put me of a purchase just on the colour alone.
a lot of sailors would like a choice of a couple of different colour scemes that would at least match there boards and there ain't many pink boards out there.

I agree. But maybe they're just trying to be a little different as a boutique brand. However I would have thought that the primary objective would be to sell sails.
I would have had a mainstream colour and maybe the pink for the NAGs.

The more colours in sails the better they look. Too many sails look too plain. Some have very drab grey colours. Why? Yesterday there was a bloke out on an old Neil Pryde sail from the 80s and it looked a lot more cheery and colourful than the modern sails there including mine.

That's one of the reasons(a part from it being a great sail) I bought my GPS 2012, so flashy and fluo !!! Reminded me of the boardshorts I used to wear in the late 80's...

My spare gun boom. The colour is bright but liked in a very short time:-). Definately better looking in real life and can't wait to spend more time on these sails....
